I have been working at Yankee Candle full-time (More than a year)

Pros

The pay is reasonable and they offer bonuses to everyone from store manager to sales associate.

Cons

The people in D34 (Florida) are very cliquey. If you don't kiss upper management's butt, they don't care about you.
There is so much busy work. Paperwork that repeats everything again and again. Instead of the DSM or TSM visiting stores, they just ask for pictures.
If you have a question they treat you like you are a moron for even thinking about asking.
They never send you the product needed to do floor sets, or even meet customer demands.
The 16 steps are absolutely asinine. It is robotic and customers want their experience to be individualized. Why would I offer something like an illuma-lid to someone who has told me they don't burn candles for safety reasons?!

Advice to Management

Think. Policies are counter-intuitive. Build a relationship with the customer, but make sure you shove everything we sell down their throat.

I worked at Yankee Candle full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Not incredibly physically demanding, customers are pretty content and easy to work with, quarterly bonuses if sales goals are met, fairly decent discount on candles, and you smell good when you go home.

    Cons

Management likes to dangle carrots in front of employees but don't fulfill promises. In order to move up in the company, you have to really brown nose and get ALL management to like you, not just the store manager, but the district manager and managers from other stores. Many times management will dangle a promotion to an associate or assistant only to make up excuses as to why they can't dish out what they promised.

    Advice to Management

Stop with the bureaucracy. Stop stringing employees along with the bait and switch. Hire store managers that actually know what they are doing. Bridge the pay gap between store manager and assistant. You're doing a great job of making an example of the American income gap in a smaller setting.
