I have been working at Yelp full-time

    Pros

The company is growing fast. You would assume that hiring 30+ per month would mean they are over-hiring in order to weed people out, but there's plans to grow the salesforce to a few hundred more. With a fast growing company comes the natural growing pains, but I've alway felt Yelp has been very transparent on areas of improvements and genuinely care about making changes in attempt to make the day to day and overall job...

    Cons

It's challenging, particularly early on when you don't know how to handle the tough objections on the phone. Example: "We've already been called by Yelp for 5 years". If you lose engagement in growing your career and getting better at what you're doing, it's very hard to find motivation.

    Advice to Management

Solutions are needed to work with/talk with business owners that already made up their mind about if they want/need Yelp. Many feel like they are banging their head against a wall on that one. If you're good you can handle that objection, but 80% cant.

    Pros

Great Support in the Roles from Upper Management

    Cons

Noise is too apparent when you are trying to work a account

    Advice to Management

Explain that each employee should be conscious of their neighbor and the noise levels because clients could hear background noises

    Pros

I am writing this review 6 weeks after leaving Yelp and about 4 at my new company so I feel like I have had some time to digest, compare, and reflect on my experience. THE GOOD: People - A pro and a con, we will get to that later. I have made some of my dearest friends and amazing mentors working there. Everyone is around the same age, has similar goals as you, and for the most part your peers encourage you to succeed....

***IMPORTANT*** Let the record stand that in September there was an attempted SHOOTING at Yelp in SF and NOT A SINGLE MESSAGE was sent out until 3PM three days later after employees were panicking/gossiping about it. Our stock plunged nearly 30% in Nov. Business owners were talking about it on our calls and not a single person in management or leadership addressed it. Buckle up, because there are many. ...

    Advice to Management

    1. Stop promoting only white people. It's incredibly obvious. 2. Grow up -- flirting with your employees is embarrassing and unprofessional 3. Take a good look at the morality of how you're running your company. 4. Your trophy winners are quitting -- shouldn't that tell you something? 5. Stop bullying people when they choose to go elsewhere. Don't tell me I'm 'giving up' or 'if you can't be successful/happy here,...

    Yelp Response

March 15, 2019People Operations at Yelp

We take the safety and security of our employees extremely seriously; there are two layers of physical security at our NYC office: 1) the building security in the lobby and 2) Yelp's own physical security team stationed at reception; all are trained professionals (many with law enforcement ...
