I have been working at Youth Villages full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Youth Village's has much to offer! The work completed, while very challenging, is very rewarding. Those that are committed and willing to work hard will get opportunities to advance.

Cons

Every job has its challenges- Youth Villages has high standards which directly relates to the success of the company- so if you are willing to work hard, adapt to change, and truly have a desire to impact the lives of others in a positive way the con's will be limited. And remember- you will impact the lives of the clients you work with- if you are not willing to give 100% you will impact a life in a negative manner.

I have been working at Youth Villages full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

If you are a desperate for a job, YV is always hiring because of their extremely high turnover rate. And that is pretty much the only "pro"...

    Cons

Low salary, long hours, and total lack of appreciation from management. Clinical staff earn almost nothing. Senior officers and directors openly acknowledge that clinical staff are replaceable and completely dispensable.

    Advice to Management

Pay employees a decent wage. Show some respect for the hundreds of employees who interact with the kids and their families!

I worked at Youth Villages full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Interacting with the youth is the only pro

    Cons

I don't know where to begin
-Low pay considering the 70 hour plus work weeks
-On call 24/5 to all clients and supervisor...no life!
-tons of redundant and trivial paperwork
    - sales type philosophy when it comes to having a youth successfully discharged... they want a successful discharge for philanthropic reasons and are constantly changing the definition of a successful discharge
    - little to no supervisor support...just delegation of tasks which is unreal what they ask of you
    - they hire employees saying that they will have a reasonable caseload and that these youth will be no more that 60 miles at the most away from your home or office....bs! I put up to 800+ miles on my car every week
    - I had a death in my family and because it wasn't a weeks notice I was told that if I choose to go to the funeral and if any of my paperwork deadlines are compromised that I would have a disciplinary action go into my file
-Many of the kids blow you off because they really don't know what they are signing up for or their state workers order them to.

    Advice to Management

Work with your team when they are struggling even if that means pushing up a deadline, or seeing a youth yourself. Respect your teams work life balance
