Pros

Wonderfully creative, collaborative culture. Everyone was committed & happy to be there & working together, and the overall environment was set up to help foster that. In typical startup fashion, most of the employees are young and single, and they tend to work hard & late, as well as play together regularly. Most employees had their own Zazzle online shops, some of which were serious side revenue generators. To help encourage this, the kitchen was extremely well stocked with real food (e.g. frozen burritos & cheese & crackers), snacks of every sweet & savory ilk, an incredible variety of beverages - all free of course. And dinner brought in every night for people working late.

Cons

Although the culture was vibrant in part due to the youth of the general employee population, that also contributes a bit to sometimes a lack of clear direction or experienced management. At one point the company brought in some high-powered marketing big-wigs from Hollywood to try to "take them to the next level", but those people really only led them astray and it's taken a while for the company to get back on track. There can also be a bit of favoritism, and "creativity" is valued over just about anything else (e.g. if you don't have the right uber-designery hipster attitude or appearance, you may feel sometimes left out in the cold a bit).

Advice to Management

Recognize & cultivate most different personality types & skillsets to diversify the company makeup.
