I have been working at Zendesk full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Great people and managers. The employees really seem to love the company, and the product, and believe in its focus. The customers love the product too. Just search for Zendesk on Twitter and see what I mean. How many companies get constant props for their customer service. If you know of any other than Zendesk, then they're probably are a customer of Zendesk.

Cons

The code base both for infrastructure and product can use quite a bit of work. But its a result of having to scale so quickly, and it seems to be their main focus now.

Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. Keep listening to your lower people. They have great ideas and the company can greatly benefit from the many eyes on our product and plans. Also try to dogfood more.

    I have been working at Zendesk full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    The company culture is still somewhat strong, although becoming more political by the moment.

    Some teams work very well and seem to be very close. It really depends on what department you're in.

    The company and product are rather well received in the industry. Saying "you work at Zendesk" is seen as a positive.

    Good work life balance. The place is dead after 5 pm.

    Cons

    Things are becoming very political.

    New CRO has instituted massive changes in sales and marketing, with a complete restructure of both teams with no leadership and clear direction.

    Many of the talented employees are leaving.

    The location of the SF office is depressing. It's not safe.

    Advice to Management

    Hire talented team oriented players.

    Stop with all the politics.

    Look at the people you have lost at the company recently and ask yourself why this is happening.

    Make sure senior leadership is setting clearly defined business goals. Stop playing politics. Quit bringing in management from large, stodgy companies that lack innovation. Identify and recognize those that are making a solid contribution.
