Positive Outlook

I have been working at Zenith Insurance full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

The company is years ahead of the industry and has many smart and dedicated employees.

Cons

The experience of an individual employee, with all else equal, will have the success of their career often solely dependent on their direct manager and not empirically based on their work.

Advice to Management

The company has spent a great deal in crafting a high minded philosophy for success there, but an employee's merit is not measured by this philosophy, more often it seen by the employees as an empty joke, only it is a good measurement. Instead of promotions formed to fit the arbitrary and shifting ideas of what the organization should look like the promotion process should be used to promote people who will help the company self organize. Agility is the key to the future success of the company and the foundation of any agile method is based on trusting employees and empowering them.

    Pros

Well respected company in the industry, moderate salaries, but pretty solid benefits. Limited pressure for production by underwriters; more focus on personal development and self improvement, as well as relationship building. Many long term employees.

    Cons

One of the pros could be construed as a con, as limited pressure to produce also comes with limited monetary incentive to produce (i.e. Performance Bonus). Additionally, advancement can be challenging, somewhat political.

    Advice to Management

Continue to offer fair salaries and strong benefits, while maintaining reputation as sound company within the industry. Perhaps consider a bonus structure for underwriting rewarding production and profitability.

  2. "Great benefits; too many VPs"

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

Great benefit package especially the health insurance. Good place to work as an employee--good middle managers. Co-workers are great. HR tries hard to do the right thing.

    Cons

Too much change too often. Every new VP has to make their mark regardless if their ideas are good. Upper management positions are much less friendly--too much turn over and games. Too bad because it's a good company overall.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to stop power struggles and realize that working together is a good thing and best for the company.
