The Bancorp structure makes getting things done complicated.

I have been working at Zions Bancorporation part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice perks & incentive programs, ability to move within the company (not necessarily promotions but varies sectors), flexible schedules, employee development, focused on relaying valuable industry information downward, engages employees by encouraging employee feedback for positive implementaions.

    Cons

Medical, dental, & vision benefits are HORRIBLE (I only intend to stick it out another yr due to these horrible benefits). If you or your dependents require a high frequence of medical attention this company is not for you!

Some sectors (in Houston) at least have subpar management. You'll find individuals in roles not because they are qualified but because they have long tenure. Which makes for a bad fit within a leadership role, in turn causes high turn over and a negative work environment.

I worked at Zions Bancorporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Big company, more than 11,000 employees in 10 states (mostly in Utah, but a fairly big presence in California, Nevada, and Texas). Numerous opportunities to move around and gain new skills. A college degree is helpful in getting into higher paying positions, but I also know many managers who do not have degrees.

    Cons

As with any large company, politics and protection of territory sometimes gets in the way of getting things done.

    Advice to Management

Refocus on what matters most. Make it OK to discuss issues openly, rather than being concerned about the team getting a black eye if someone knows that something went wrong. Stop hiring managers who have no experience in the type of work they will be managing, particularly in back-office operations and IT. Where necessary, even in high-level upper management, make tough changes.
