Discrimination sweeped under the rug
Feb 24, 2023 - Senior Software EngineerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Fully remote work and opportunity to move to different states/countries - Great colleagues
Cons
- Poor work life balance for engineers. It's not uncommon to see people commiting very late into the night. This is a personal experience from mine but I faced heavy and constant discrimination from my manager and his manager in the most recent part of my tenure. As a person of color this is something that I find very important to fight when it's present. When I brought this to the attention of my superiors they shut me out of the conversation and came back saying they found no evidence of discrimination without even working with me throughout the process. To make matters worse, my manager's manager was part of the group trying to figure out if discrimination had happened. I don't know how common this is in other departments but if you're someone who cares about DE&I I'd suggest treading a light foot around this company.

The company's mission-driven approach created a positive work environment where employees were encouraged to grow and develop their skills. The feedback culture is outstanding with bi-annual reviews leading to continuous improvement and promotions. Zocdoc year over year has shown commitment to creating a welcoming and inclusive workplace. The company has made a conscious effort to promote diversity at all levels of the organization

Culture is riddled with toxic executives, yes men/women, top-heavy and inexperienced or redundant management

Work-life balance wasn't bad. Some people were nice to work with.
Cons
Where to start? The culture, especially within the Business Operations org , is extremely toxic, and promotes retaliation, lack of trust, micro-managing and gas lighting - just to name a few. Senior Management within the BizOps group thinks they're smarter than they actually are and lack clear, consistent vision. It's not wonder the company is 15 years old and they haven't been acquired or IPOd. It's also no wonder that the entire IC team has turned over in the last 11 months thanks to this *inspired* leadership. Middle-management are yes men/women who follow marching orders, do not deliver specific, actionable feedback and frankly, lack the appropriate experience to hold director level roles. The fact that the people that hold middle-management/director level roles is more a reflection of the judgement and business acumen of the executives that oversee the BizOps org than the individual people and their skills.
