Pros

Very cool technology - scalable, high-peformance cloud security solution.
Good market traction and rapidly growing customer base.
Lots of talented engineers with strong engineering leadership.
CEO has a proven track record for funding and leading several companies.
Stock is not diluted with lots of rounds of VC funding rounds.

Cons

Very aggressive work culture - not for the faint hearted.
Sink or swim attitude has caused a few burnouts.
Benefits and vacations are paltry.

Advice to Management

Execute and focus.
Reward employees frequently and prevent burnouts.
Company has grown rapidly and needs better HR, IT, processes, etc.

    If you want an 8 to 5 job, this is not the right company.

    Advice to Management

    Remain selective in hiring. The early team is very good. As the company is growing fast, hope you don’t hire mediocre people who lack work ethics and drive.

    Pros

    Good technology 2-3 years ago, but minimal change means they are now lagging.
    A few big name customers

    Cons

    * High staff turnover, including executive staff
    * Lack of clear team leads with ownership and accountability.
    * Atmosphere is disrespectful with emphasis on being loud and hero of the day.
    * New hires are helpless and flounder around without documentation and mentors.
    * Senior developers do not lead by example.
    * Not a fun place to work.
    * Lack of standardized configuration and test beds available to all developers.
    * Tightly coupled system is hard to test.
    * Lots of wasted cycles over infrastructure, network and connectivity issues.
    * Company has made several penny wise, pound foolish decisions on equipment for developers.
    * Lack of proper planning – PRD reviews, design discussions/reviews, code reviews and completion estimates from developers.
    * Lack of discipline in branching and code commits.
    * Lack of single standardized tool for full release visibility.
    * Lots of interrupts from production support. No clear escalation path.
    * Unrealistic release dates with no plan for QA. Developers expected to rubber stamp arbitrary estimates.

    Advice to Management

    Zscaler is funded by it's CEO. At any other startup poor management would have led to the CEO being fired by the Board, but with no Board to speak off the CEO holds too much power.

    It's time for management to stop running the company into the ground and make the needful changes!
