I have been working at Zynga full-time (More than a year)

Pros

1. A really great team of guys to work with every single day. They make work fun!

2. The "Perks" - e.g. daily catered lunches, chair massages, "wine down" Wednesdays and Friday "happy hours", encouraged to bring your dog to work, fun work environment (work hard, play hard!).

Cons

1. No real "level up" opportunities (or recognition) for Admin staff, especially at our remote locations. Focus is 99% on Management, Devs and Engineers.

2. Divisiveness between teams/groups that seems encouraged (and even perpetuated) by managers.

3. Feel disconnected from the Mother Ship (HQ) because of being a remote studio - would really like C-staff to visit more often.

Advice to Management

More transparency, especially with the remote team folks who may not otherwise get information from their manager, the studio GM, etc. about changes, re-orgs, etc.

I have been working at Zynga full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Free food: awesome food at the SF headquarters. Other satellite offices have food too but not even close to the HQ. They try to keep fresh fruit and juices everywhere.

flexibility (depending on the team): if you are in a team like I am in (infrastructure) and the manager is cool about it, you will have the flexibility to work out of where you want. It really helps

good benefits: Blue-cross-PPO or Kaiser, dental offered free for employees. free GYM at the SF HQ, frequent events with food&booze.

good bonuses every quarter... particularly if you are in the game studios and you game does well.

    Cons

Lacks direction. redundant work done a lot of times in the team. Upper management lets that happen. and some teams are working on things with no strong leads who can make strong decisions. Can't say is this is a common trend, since i have been here for less than a year. But i heard that there is a lot of shuffling of resources between teams going on all the time.

    No 401K matching.

6 weeks maternity leave, which is the shortest i have seen in companies.

I worked at Zynga full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-Work at a company and on titles with strong name recognition
-Future employers may think you know what you are talking about when it comes to "social" or "data-driven" game design
    -Free dinner

    Cons

    -Work mostly with idiots
    -Work unreasonable hours

    Advice to Management

Learn to reward and value smart work, not just hard work.
