    I worked at hhgregg full-time

    Pros

The buildings are generally new and pleasant to work in for the environment. You typlically get to see the latest electronics and applainces before other retailers.

    Cons

3 Key holders to run multi-million dollar big box retailer. Wages are below average for the type and quantity of work performed. This company is finacially sound due to the low wages they pay.

    Advice to Management

Continuing to pack on more hours and responsibilities and adding new business streams without an increase to the manager level positions seems to be a receipe for disaster. You can only ask 3 managers to do so much.

I have been working at hhgregg full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Straight commission is great when you have the foot traffic to stay busy. If you're young without many responsibilities, it's a great way to keep cash in your wallet. You'll double what you would earn at any other retail store on an hourly wage.

    Cons

It's retail, so the hours are atrocious. hhgregg manages to suck the life out of you even more with their scheduling "templates", which managers are afraid to break. You will close the night before your days off, and open following a day off. The rest of the week will follow a close/open format, limiting any free time to sleep and recovery.

Do not get sucked into tasking on a regular basis. Not only will your sales suffer, but it will fall on you when things do not get done if you create those expectations. Your store's top writers won't do it and management will give them a pass because this company is hellbent on numbers, with absolutely no acknowledgement of individual contributions beyond sales. This is not so much a corporate issue as it is a store level issue. Do not expect your managers to have your back.

Management is hired from outside the company. If you've worked at Circuit City or Sears in the past, you have your golden ticket for advancement. If not, you're out of luck.

    Advice to Management

Re-think modeling your expectations off of previous year sales and traffic numbers. Considering the amount of turnover in each store and the fact that the company has lost money in the last five quarters, that data is incredibly inaccurate.

Allow GMs and SMs to create schedules that fit their store's needs.

Explain to GMs and SMs why landed cost jumps when a product goes discontinued and no purchase orders are in place. So they can at least give us the answer when we ask.
