Pros

The people - obviously depending on what group or department you are in matters - and every company has stars and dogs. In my experience - dealing with senior leaders - they are welcoming, friendly, and open to new ideas.

Cons

Legacy products and resistance to certain types of change haunt the company and can cause frustration and/or delays in deliverables. Decision by committee also has trickle-down effects that reduces everyone's ability to make a difference.

Advice to Management

Double down on people - getting them engaged and investing in them professionally. Cost cuts are inevitable - but those that remain should be and are your greatest asset. Do whatever you can to nurture and retain those people.

Also - the company is moving to digital - actual physical location should not matter whatsoever.

    Pros

If you are just out of school, this is a great place to get experience, be paid enough to make rent comfortably and work with some really cool people. Can't speak highly enough about my co-workers and my floor managers.

    Cons

There is no earthly reason for a commercial web design company (which is... kinda sorta what they want to be) to be this huge. With all the hands each site had to pass through and all the redundant clerical road-blocks from old workflows piled on top of old workflows, production was a nightmare. Outright disinterest in the company's own products from sales and upper management, at least on the digital side. To say that there is more emphasis on numbers than on quality would be an understatement. It's clear they don't intend to be around long.

    Advice to Management

Implement this most recent product roll-out in 2003.

    Pros

    Really cannot think of any.

    Cons

They recently moved to Agile in the Engineering disciplines but with the exception of the DBU they have no idea what they are doing. Higher management (directors/VPs) are generally clueless and either don't have a vision or what vision they may have they are not willing to stand behind. A lot of the company's engineering is focused in Operations and they couldn't engineer their way out of a paper bag. Very poor program management discipline on that side of the company and pseudo-waterfall Agile. 50+ people on morning "scrum" calls where only the doers talk - which means that 45 people listen for an hour while 5 people try to solve problems in real time. Insane. This company is quickly spiraling down. Get out now.

    Advice to Management

Fire all the senior engineering management outside the DBU. Fire most of the Product Management team IN the DBU. Consolidate all your engineering in one physical location if you're going to do scrum. Let the DBU take the lead and fire most of Ops engineering or move them into the DBU.
