I worked at iomart full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Support Team generally left to work things out, work well together and generally very few issues between the team. Good people to work with. Wide skill sets and always someone you can go to for help with an issue.

Cons

Management don't seem to talk to one another. No organization or planning. You are expendable, sit up and shut up attitude. If you're not in there sales team, you're not worth hanging on to. Low pay, no work/life balance. Company lacks morals. Spend half your day advising customers that they can't have payments refunded. Generally no motivation to actually support the company. Hired under the impression you support a single company, find out you are supporting 5. Within 2 months they had brought in another 2 companies, within 4 months another 2 had been bought. Same support team, same size now supporting around 9 separate companies with no salary or incentice increase.

Advice to Management

Realize how good a Support Team there is in the Maryhill office. They fix the screw ups of the sales team on a daily basis. Provide incentives, try and hold on to staff rather than hiring the next cheapest option. Attempt to comply with employer law. Aim for some customer retention, take a look at the company morals.

I worked at iomart full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great opportunity to work on a wide range of technologies and build experience on enterprise level equipment. If your in the correct position you can control your own work flow day-to-day, but this isn't always possible for everyone.
External training and exams available, and as long as you can justify a business benefit you can choose a course/exam you'd like to do and the costs will be covered for you.
Salaries can be fair (but not always).

    Cons

Little in the way of reward or appreciation for doing a good job. You need to be able to motivate yourself and keep yourself on track. Unless you can get yourself in a position where you can control your own work flow it can be rather depressing. The mentality of people who've been there a long time can be quite demotivating.
Lack of project management and bad communications across levels of the company can lead to greatly annoying situations which could be easily avoided.
Watching others getting away with avoiding work with no recourse simply reinforces peoples dissatisfaction.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your staff. Reward all of them (not just the beloved sales team) for keeping the company growing. The directors need to treat the managers as they want their staff to be treated. If the managers are not reviewed, rewarded and exemplified, they will not do the same to their teams. Just tell people when they do well, and then tell others! Make it worth their while to do good.

    Pros

As a company Iomart dont seam to bothered as to how well there staff perform so long as they get through a set number of mundane tasks every day. If you are willing to sit at a desk and look busy. You will get no complaints from management. No one seams to bother about how well you do your job so long as no customers send in specific complaint about you in person.

    Cons

As a company Iomart see there staff as a disposable assete apart form maybe 20 key employess.
Training does take place but it is a very low priority. Any who come up with ideas to improve productivity or help with training initiatives is very quickly put to the outside. There is the right way to do ajob and the Iomart way.

    Advice to Management

The management seriously need to talk to there junior staff and find out how they could provide beter technical training for them. Senior management want to try and concentraight less on sales sales sales , and look at the quality of after sales they provide for their customers.
