I worked at kCura full-time (More than a year)

Pros

A true technology company. kCura knows what it takes to handle the day to day of running a tech company. They never skimp on technology and they give you the tools that you need to do your job. Incredibly talented staff. They spare no expense in getting top talent.

Cons

Very cliquey. If you're not in the inner circle, you'll get left behind. The party mentality does create a culture clash for those who have outgrown the frat boy lifestyle. You must drink the KoolAid to get ahead at this place.

Advice to Management

Separate work performance from social status. Give everyone a fair shot.

I have been working at kCura as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

The talent added over the last 18 months, specifically at the mid-to-senior leadership levels, has been very impressive. The buzz in the VC community has been loud for over three years. The flying-under-the-radar company is a refreshing change from the Groupon's of Chicago, with endless self-promotion and drama. And the core product Relativity is becoming THE name in eDiscovery, if it's not already.

If kCura were founded and based in San Francisco, most everyone would have heard of them, and many more would be trying to get hired by them.

    Cons

Let me think - casual dress environment, very competitive pay, free benefits for employees, 401k match, pancake breakfasts monthly, free beverages, a week off of work between Christmas and New Year's? Hmmm. Work from home is the only thing I can think of.

I think some people need to give the mid-30's Founder/CEO a break - he's never run a company before and has been learning along the way. You try it some time.

    Advice to Management

After doubling the ranks of management from 4 to 8 in two years, all of whom have gray hair and the necessary experience to help lead kCura domestically and globally, I'm excited to see what the company does next with this added firepower.

I have been working at kCura full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Incredibly talented group of people. Great culture. Work hard, play hard. Collaborative feel throughout the company. Excellent training budget and programs offered to all employees. Health care benefits getting better over the years. Cool end of the year holiday break. Highly productive environment. No place to hide for poor performers...which is a very refreshing change from most companies. The core values provide a nice blueprint on how to be successful at kCura. CEO is a charismatic leader and is passionate about the company and the product....perhaps sometimes to a fault.

    Cons

Company finally instituted work from home policy but still fairly restrictive. Tremendous emphasis placed on co-location. Internal tools for defect tracking, agile development, and HR systems are lacking as they are stubbornly built on top of the proprietary and ill-fitted eDiscovery software. At times it feels like we're all on a hamster wheel, never really taking a breather. I hope all these talented people don't burn out.

    Advice to Management

Trust your chain of command. Hopefully you've hired and trained the right people to do the job.
