I worked at kate spade full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

they give a fifty per cent discount on their over priced apparel.

Cons

human resources and upper management have no people skills or HR experience. very unkind treatment to store managers. very biased. discriminates against age, race and gender. katie spade would be mortiified if she knew how fifth and pacific, who now owns kate spade, treated her prior staff. they falsify records and ride you to resign. an absolute shame. they have no morales.

    Pros

Benefits: health, dental, vision. 401k, life insurance, pto for FT and long term PT. Wardrobing programs, great employee discounts, monthly bonus plan for every team member, frequent contests with prizes (examples: all expense paid trips, apple products, handbags, gift cards).

    Cons

Unrealistic expectations. Bullying (threats, name calling, etc) as a form of motivation. Favoritism is played on multiple levels of discipline and motivation. Name calling and discrimination is common (in the hiring process and beyond).

I worked at kate spade full-time

    Pros

    1. There is strong branding, so you have a good sense of the company aesthetic and point of view. 2. It's a growing company, one of Liz Claiborne's only successes at the moment.
    3. Many good employees

    Cons

    1. It feels very, very corporate because it's owned by Liz Claiborne. Not the Kate Spade from 10 years ago - Kate herself doesn't even have anything to do with the company anymore which many people don't realize.
    2. Feels hard to move up unless you put in a LOT of time, and even then the promotions I saw weren't huge.
    3. Strong branding can be a negative if you don't live and breathe ks. You have to totally get behind the "schtick."
    4. Some very bad seeds employee-wise too, which can cancel out the good ones.
    5. Poor pay

    Advice to Management

Improve communication, hire employees more effectively, try to keep a small company feel even though the company is owned by LC.
