I have been working at Enbridge full-time

    Pros

    Good Pay, Great Benefits.
Great people to work with including most of management.
    Very good work life balance.
For most part cares about employees

    Cons

Outside of safety, tends to over engineer processes related to incidents regardless of seriousness of issue.
Has follow up consensus meetings for meetings discussing a change.
    Slow to Change

    Advice to Management

Encourage eliminating excessive meetings to just have meetings. Everything does not always need a meeting to accomplish a task.

I have been working at Enbridge (More than a year)

    Pros

Great, hardworking coworkers makes Enbridge a better place. The job is also interesting. Management used to be good; not so much anymore...

    Cons

Enbridge used to be a great place to work. Now it's not so great anymore. Contractors became expandable, and the compensation (for contractors) sucks! Communication with management has worsened over the past few months, despite the claims that the organizational changes were done to flatten the org hierarchy and improve communication. At this time, there is no prospect of career advancement, as people are being laid off and remaining people are having to do the extra job for the same money (or less - contractors recently received a 10% rate reduction).

    Advice to Management

Start valuing your employees and contractors. You may think you don't need them, but the fact is that Enbridge is where it is now because of its hardworking people.

I have been working at Enbridge as a contractor

    Pros

Toronto office had a nice family community feel to it. Good, challenging work. Nice people to work with.

    Cons

Corp office in Calgary is dictating more and more how the Toronto office should be run; Toronto is losing its family community feel. Lots of good people being let go due to outsourcing.

    Advice to Management

Outsourcing will lead to decreased quality of services and support. Doesn't Enbridge want to be the best in their industry? Over reliance on outsourcing will not lead to that designation.

I worked at Enbridge full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Great pay and benefits package; excellent pension options.
    - Lots of learning opportunities and courses provided.

    Cons

    - WAY too top heavy; executive team doesn't seem to care about people, and this is only getting worse as the Spectra deal comes closer.
    - HR does not help with anything when you go to them for assistance, in fact, they asked ME to suggest a solution to the problem I asked for help with. WTH?
    - Current feeling is one of major stress. Everyone is walking on eggshells, and they have been this way for over 6 months, waiting to see if they will be let go.
    - Very uptight culture, run by old cronies.

    Advice to Management

    - Step back and look at who does the work before you go around letting people go.
    - Put together coherent email communications, instead of just babbling buzzwords for months on end.
    - Nobody trusts you, ELT. Time to reconsider the way you run things.

I worked at Enbridge full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Overall, the oil and gas and pipeline industries offer a relatively good compensation package to its employees and contingent labor compared to other industries in Canada. This is the main reason that attracts people to work in this industry.

    Cons

The players in the Canadian oil and gas and pipeline industry are highly reliant on complex regulatory approvals, oil and gas market fluctuations and the dependency on 1 customer base on the north side of the border. This renders overall this industry highly risky to invest in.

    Advice to Management

To diverfy and invest in renewable sources of energy like solar and wind.
To focus less on a short term gain and more on the long term, that is the future.

I worked at Enbridge (More than 3 years)

    Pros

in some teams great colleagues with a lot of experience, especially in Edmonton and more technical teams, good compensation packages and benefits,

    Cons

Calgary is very political, more important to be nice than adding value to the company, knowledge is hugged closely to advance rather than shared, several toxic environment, might be better now after the last reorgs

    Advice to Management

cut more layers of management, empower your workers, align the goal between top management and middle management, develop your middle management, drive more accountability
