I have been working at Encana full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice office minus the bugs throughout Republic Plaza.

    Cons

Inept, clueless, callous, oblivious, predatory "managers" with no repercussions for their actions or lack thereof. Oh, and a CEO/President earning millions with no proven results, besides layoffs...

    Advice to Management

    Maybe actually manage/train employees??

I worked at Encana full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay...that's about it, which is sad but true

    Cons

Everything. Lack of meritocracy, managers are COMPLETELY pampered, ground level & below are basically shat on. Completely political, dysfunctional POS.

Five rounds of layoffs & managers aren't even touched.

    Advice to Management

Layoff other managers. This is absurd.

I worked at Encana full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Great benefits, particularly 1st and 3rd Fridays off, vacation time, and 401(k)
    - Good work, life balance
    - Well organized compared to other companies
    - Good mix of younger and experienced employees

    Cons

    - Little opportunity for advancement if you are not an engineer or geologist
    - Too process oriented without allowing for discretion or creative growth
    - Everything that goes with being in the oil & gas industry

    Advice to Management

Create development or mentorship programs to allow mobility and cross-training across departments

    I worked at Encana full-time

    Pros

    Good compensation and career development.

    Cons

Very political. They are the "good neighbor" until the bottom line gets in the way - especially with reduced operating/capital budgets. They cut labor to please the stock holders and turn around and contract the work out to third parties. Then they ask the third parties to reduce their rates. The CEO makes over 10 million and he didn't see the bubble.

    Advice to Management

HR shouldn't have as much power as you grant them. Modernize performance contracts/evaluations. Talking doesn't always equal productivity.

    Pros

Good benefits, including medical coverage. Salary was competitive, vacation policy was great. Encana was willing to spend money on training. Encana has a pretty good safety culture, though less so in practice in the field. They employ a lot of young people.

    Cons

They employ a lot of young people, not much in the way of experienced personnel. Gender diverse, but not racially or ethnically diverse. The company lacks systems to support the work of engineers. Not very sophisticated in project execution, controls, drawing archives and system designs.

    Advice to Management

Bring in more experienced personnel and add support systems that would make Encana a first class player, not a JV oil patch company.
