    Pros

analytical in nature, risk taking by design

    Cons

ghettoed, poor management, below-market pay, hierarchy oriented, analysis-paralysis

    Advice to Management

Difficult to have meritocracy when the top person believes in - my way or the highway !! Need a new leader at the absolute top !

I have been working at Encore Capital Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great work life balance, fun coworkers and smart people. You'll work your butt off when needed, but you'll also have ample time for yourself when things are slower.

    Cons

Limited transparency into other departments. Sometimes there is poor communication between upper management and individual contributors. They also did away with large awards at year end and switched to a silly app that gives you "points" for doing q good job. I'm not fond of this change.

I have been working at Encore Capital Group (Less than a year)

    Pros

Awesome place to work at, management is helpful and friendly. There are weekly meetings were if anyone has a concern they can bring it up. You are encouraged to bring new ideas and they will legitimately analyze them to see if it can be implemented.

    Cons

Town hall meetings are super boring and most of the time is stuff you really don't care about.

    Advice to Management

You are understaffed, don't expect your employees to perform the job of a few.

I worked at Encore Capital Group full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

free food leftover from meetings, team building activities.

    Cons

Lousy benefits ( especially since 401k benefits was reduced), rewarding drama and gossip (focusing on the work won't get you recognized or promoted) and less than 2% pay raise each year. Management promote the yes people. The new CRO made a few bad decisions in department re-organization. Audit is down to just managers when all the staff quit.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to results of the employee survey and focus in the work. hint: the ones who love drama frequently say they hate drama,

"Depending on department, this is a great entry level opportunity for working in a corporate setting for decent pay."

    Pros

Decent pay for the nature of the work
Modern, clean work environment, depending on location
Great exposure to the overall legal processes in multiple states
Fair amount of wiggle room for breaks, time off etc.; not too much micro management in that regard
Nice, younger, attractive coworkers; decent camaraderie/culture
    Not too many meetings

    Cons

Work isn't stimulating, challenging, or engaging
Task based production is barely legal work, and numbers are king
    High turnover
    Terrible, borderline broken software
Suggestions, improvements or potential regulatory concerns go ignored or are rarely if ever acted upon
Training is verbal, and can vary from person to person, with no written documentation for certain positions

    Advice to Management

Hire competent, knowledgeable group managers. If they have to rely on a "senior" subordinate to do a lot of their workload delegation and other management duties, or if they simply don't know how a process works, then they're neither competent nor knowledgeable.

Ditto on team members. If they have a degree, great. If they put out a lot of work, great. Neither necessarily makes them capable of consistently meeting the already relatively low standards, or grasping certain procedural/legal concepts.

Recognize those who excel, and compensate them accordingly. Don't use excuses of budgetary constraints. Promote from within, like a ladder.

For middle management specifically, don't excuse your duty by making statements like "we've already brought it up" or "we don't know if it will be addressed", especially when regulatory concerns are raised.

Create a training environment emulating the production environment. Have written training manuals.

    Pros

Tremendous people. At the time, great culture of investing in their high potential people. Very performance driven. Worked with very smart people. Felt honored to be chosen to work with the group of which I was a member.

    Cons

Encore had a lengthy involved interview process. Performance management nearly forced managers to rank team members with limitations on number of people you could rate highly. At the time pay levels were generally lower than market levels. (Still, good investment in people...)

    Advice to Management

Maintain the leadership and culture development efforts.

    Cons

When the old founder and CEO was there the company was great and seemed to have ethics about what and how they operated. That seems to have fallen by the wayside.

off-shore model - means long off hours and constant re-work
