    Advice to Management

Sweat shop in the 21st century. Consultants are treated worse than second class citizens. Full time employees treated marginally better compared to the consultants. Does not matter how productive you may be, it is a slave and master environment. If you ever dare to refuse politely something outrageous, seen as insubordination. Not encountered more unprofessional and disrespectful behavior in a career spanning two decades, strangely from senior management employees. Too much politicking and back biting. You could be the worst at your job and may be goofing up day after day, but you will survive if you can kiss the business's backside. Trust me, I can give you names in PMO who make a living just that way. Ironically, the higher management lacks the basic skills and understanding of the ground level tasks. Short-sighted planning, lack basic understanding of process. PMO is a joke and farce, theyre just trying to make it to the last few years to retirement. Will micromanage you to death despite their own incompetence. Senior IT management promises business without even consulting people who do the real work. The most talented are unfortunately not making the decisions, rather are merely following instructions. Don't believe me? Ask anyone who works in IT. Would give a negative, not 1/5 if it were possible. Need names, could provide those as well. Worked in numerous environments, would not work here ever, even if it were the last company that survived.

    Pros

A very healthy work environment that is so inviting. Everyone is nice and helpful. The company is growing exponentially and as long as you show you're putting in the effort, you immediately earn respect. It is very easy to have a life outside the workplace with their 8-5 hours.

    Cons

I left because there weren't too many growth opportunities outside of underwriting; however, it is still a growing company so I expect that to change shortly.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you do. Continue treating your employees with respect and allow to grow and you will have a prosperous firm.

    Cool People
More of a relaxed work environment
Office locations and work from home is often available

    Cons

Upper management can be tough to deal with
Some executives care more about their ego than the actual company
    Not much unity

    Advice to Management

Reach out to younger employees, support the back office more, be more innovative

    Cons

Some personalities are hard to work with, pay could be better for non-underwriting positions

    Advice to Management

Keep Lestrange management style alive. Don't get away from the upstart mentality.

I worked at Endurance Specialty full-time

    Pros

    Great compensation
office culture was good, but never had a chance to learn about other counterparts in other locations.

    Cons

Very little transparency between Executive Management to the production team.
Spend your money better on systems so it does not fail so frequently.

    Advice to Management

Communicate more and do not hide it from your employees, you might end up retaining more quality employees rather than having them leave.

I worked at Endurance Specialty full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

First and foremost, Endurance is a growing company and under the leadership of John Charman, Endurance avoided being acquired so far in a rapidly consolidating environment. The benefits are pretty solid and the pay is good. You get to work with smart and friendly co-workers. If you are lucky, you get to travel to some of the other offices, including Bermuda, which is pretty cool. Free beverages and snacks. Very flexible on working hours and great work-life balance.

    Cons

The strategic emphasis has been to grow out underwriting teams and the insurance side of the business. If you are not involved in any of those, you get overlooked, diminishing career development. Some of the underlying technology maintaining Endurance's systems could use an upgrade, but management is stingy on spending when it's not related to growing underwriting. Boring office culture. The floor is like being in a library and teams tend to not go out that much.

    Advice to Management

Make an investment in your people and technology beyond just underwriting. Find ways to get teams to mix together more.

I have been working at Endurance Specialty full-time

    Pros

Fantastic management who takes the time to listen to their employees and help them succeed on every level. Excellent benefits - low employee cost for the healthcare, the company picks up most of the costs. Very nice office, unlimited coffee and snacks, break rooms are well stocked and employees are encouraged to take a few minutes to recharge throughout the day.

    Cons

The technology is ancient, especially considering Endurance isn't that old of a company, and changes to technology isn't widely accepted. 401K match could be better.

    Advice to Management

Embrace changing technology, get someone to lead IT that actually seems to want the company to succeed and grow.
