    Things are improving

    Pros

The culture for excellence appears to be catching on; very good pay, good benefits. Our ranking within the industry is improving.

    Cons

Stressful and demanding work environment; no work-life balance. Middle management still lacks ability to manage workload dispursement, performance and engagement. Some departments are better than others.

    From a maintenance worker perspective

    Pros

Great pay, relatively easy work, very few 'backbreaking' jobs, and very safe.

    Cons

There is an overall atmosphere of "Even the slightest mistake will ruin your career" so everyone is walking on eggshells at all times so there is this weird stress shared by all employees.

Good money but an authoritarian environment

Feb 10, 2014 - Applications Analyst III in Richland, WA

    Pros

Good Pay and compensation for employees. Most of the employees are skilled and able to do the job.

    Cons

The environment is based on a top down management style with no room for feed back. Culture is heavily influenced by the nuclear navy stile. People are afraid to do anything that is different from the way it has always been done for fear that management will not like the way it is done.

    Pros

Pay and time off. If you like overtime you can work, if not rarely forced

    Cons

Rotating shift work and working holidays

    Pros

They are willing to go out of their way to make sure you are getting the most you want out of the internship. When i wanted to be in the lab or field to shadow different people it was done. The pay is good as expected, but the team environment they foster is what blew me away. I was not micromanaged, but at the same time their doors were always open when i needed help.

    Cons

It is a bit of a drive for most people, but not as far as the Wye barricade. Before getting your badge your car is inspected every time you enter the site, which is a little time consuming and annoying if its raining.

    Pros

pay is ok, not the best in the region, benefits are excellent as ENW is not a utility but actually a state entity, so you get state beni's.

    Cons

the majority of the mgmt. are not well trained, we used to call it the rickover retirement center, because it is. very top heavy with ex navy and their entourage. If you work there expect to be treated like malnourished livestock while the overbearing and arrogant mgmt. team try to relive their glory days on whatever sub they served together on. This was esp. bad in the 90's. When I was dragged in by a subcontractor to help out with a project, the ENW lifers actively cut off access to the tools needed and would sabotage the work of others to ensure that they and only they worked on the project. a minor point, since NRC security upgrades came into play its like driving into a max security prison to go to work. that sets the tone for the workers every day.

    Pros

    Pay and benefits are good.

    Cons

In my experience, women are not seriously considered for movement to management and senior management positions. So if you’re a white man you have it made!
