RecommendsPositive OutlookApproves of CEOI worked at Energy Trust of Oregon full-time for more than 3 years
Pros
The people are undeniably the best reason to work here. Such good people - reasonable, caring, empathetic (at least, in my experience). Typical for nonprofits, the feel-goods behind the work are another pro. It's nice to work somewhere where you now good things are coming from the work you do.
Cons
ETO could benefit from a higher turnover rate, quite frankly. There are a LOT of folks here who've stuck around for more than five years, so change is terrifying to most. And strategically, ETO has to inevitably change its market and its means of service if it is going to remain relevant beyond the next couple of years. What results from the mounting pressure to change in a culture that is terrified of change? A lot of labor to barely move the needle...

Doesn't RecommendNeutral OutlookNo opinion of CEOI worked at Energy Trust of Oregon
Pros
The mission of the organization is great; there are exciting, innovative projects underway; and I have met several kind employees in passing (albeit outside of work).
Cons
Highly selective employer but little to show for it. As a nonprofit, compensation at ETO is low, yet the organization demands higher qualifications and years of experience than most government jobs. My supervisor does not express interest or even acknowledge my efforts to grow or work full-time, but expects me to complete more work than I am being paid to do. I spent months doing work for Energy Trust with no pay. This organization will use and extract all you have to offer, but provide no recognition and negligible compensation in return. ETO is also very white, so this must come with the territory.

RecommendsPositive OutlookApproves of CEOI have been working at Energy Trust of Oregon for less than a year
Pros
Great group of people who are motivated to make a difference in this field. Very free to set your own pace and feel like your voice is heard during meetings.
Cons
This job isn't the best for Type A sorts. Most people here are introverted and have their own pace of doing things. This is a GOOD thing, but not a great cultural fit for everyone.

Pros
One of the best places to work on clean energy: effective, collegial and creative.
Cons
Communitarian office culture places highest value on alignment/ agreement and ensuring that no one loses face. May not support or reinforce the highest achievers, people prone to disagreement, change agents.

RecommendsNeutral OutlookApproves of CEOI have been working at Energy Trust of Oregon for less than a year
Pros
Positive environment, value work life balance, and very smart and capable people
Cons
Since the company has a set number of full time employees that they can have at any given time, it can be hard to move up. It can also be a bit lonely for younger employees or contractors.
