I worked at EnergySolutions full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Decent benefits and the craft level workers are awesome

    Cons

Totally a job where you are expendable and you can be the top performer and the Sr management will let you go. I see it to many times. Petty issues are culturally driven and there is a executive therefore I am god thing there. Used to be a top company that you could feel good about.

    Advice to Management

Executives need to stop playing musical chairs with execs that don't perform. Get rid of the bad apple at the top and I think that ES can be great

I have been working at EnergySolutions full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good to great employees. High paced work and decent freedom to make decisions. Pay is decent but beginning to lag. Some really good managers.

    Cons

No loyalty to employees. Just watched another employee of 20 years get kicked to the curb to cut G and A to make the bottom line look good. No training department or environmental department at the corporate level are you kidding me. That shows current management's commitment to long term stewardship.

    Advice to Management

Manage for the long term and not for your bonus.

I have been working at EnergySolutions (Less than a year)

    Pros

Employees are friendly and willing to help you get up to speed on your tasks.

The safety culture is great and focused on protecting the employees.

    Long distance transportation provided.

Lots of work to be done.

    Unique industry with a niche.

    Pay is decent.

    Cons

Some of the sites are 40-80 miles from civilization (depending on the city). This can make transportation a pain. Employees can spend 2- 3 hours on a bus per work day

Ten-hour days combined with a long commute makes having a social life difficult, particularly in the winter when days are short.

Older equipment and harsh conditions (Utah west desert) can complicate jobs, dust everywhere. Some days are very hot in the summer (100+ F) and cold in the winter (1-10 F).

Seems like bonus pools/programs are always in flux. It's getting difficult to achieve set bonus incentives.

Currently, career opportunities are stagnant, raises are scarce, and site is understaffed.

    Advice to Management

Try to relate more with employees. Some employees see officers and managers as inhuman money machines and often are intimidated or scared to speak their mind for fear of losing their jobs. This causes low morale among these workers.

There need to be more career opportunities within the company

Invest more in technology and innovation to improve current methods and operations.

I worked at EnergySolutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The work was very secure, I was never concerned about losing my job. The hours are flexible. Decent pay, decent benefits.

    Cons

It was a horribly mismanaged bore the whole time I worked there. I had three managers and not one of them was concerned about my lack of workload despite me asking regularly. The status quo is to work slow - make more money for the company. To top it off, they sold us to a different company, then refused to pay us the bonus that we had earned the previous year. David Lockwood CEO just dismissed the idea of giving us a bonus as if it was a joke! If they get the chance to save a buck, they'll do it at the expense of the employee.

    Advice to Management

    Manage more.

I have been working at EnergySolutions (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Hard working group, Good safety culture. Fair minded upper management.

    Cons

Excessive hours for critical path activities. Make sure you negotiate accordingly

    Advice to Management

In my opinion, large corporations should consistently work to develop the American Work force. Continue to follow through with your effort to train the next generation for craft and management positions.

    I worked at EnergySolutions full-time

    Pros

I enjoyed the projects, people, and opportunities that this company offered. My job was different from day-to-day. I was blessed to be surrounded by skilled and competent individuals.

    Cons

This company went through a growth spurt to rapidly in my opinion. Further, it went public at the worst possible moment it could have gone public: right before the real estate crash in 2008. Poor timing and rapid growth hurt this company's ability to succeed. I believe uts pulling itself together though and will have a long, successful future.

    Advice to Management

Yake care of your employees. The primary reason they leave is because of their direct supervisor. I was blessed to have a good supervisor. If you want to keep quality employees, make them the focus of your business.

    Great salary with Great Benefits.

    Cons

Management game playing at employees expense. Some of the managers seem to be lost in their own greatness. They do not seem to promote from within.
