I have been working at Engle Martin & Associates full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Executives care about employees. Quality of life at work is important to management. Diverse workforce. Opportunity to grow is good - offices all over the country and company will pay to relocate people for jobs. Culture is focused on care of others.

    Cons

Small company in growth mode means some processes are not as efficient as they could be. Could do more all employee communication. Benefits are competitive but not state of the art. They are moving in the right direction with a partially employer-funded HSA plan.

    Advice to Management

Focus on process improvements and increased employee communications from executive leadership. Wellness programs and workplace flexibility initiatives would be helpful.

I worked at Engle Martin & Associates full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You have a nice office to work in and all of your equipment is provided. They have adequate training and pay for any online licensing.

    Cons

The pay is not industry standard. The manager is awful, he acts like he is in high school with "clicks", and has his favorites. There was work at home options but management took that away. The work is easy and my co-workers were nice but again, management needs improvement.

    Advice to Management

Re-evaluate the manager and you will have a better work environment.

    Pros

The two managers I had here were great and really helped me learn. I was respected and allowed to work independently but also was given lots of invaluable guidance.

    Cons

Pay was average and good benefits were lacking. Several employees complained of alleged preferential treatment by managers but I did not experience a problem.

    Advice to Management

More opportunities for growth and more employee interaction. Seldom had a chance to get to know co-workers. Management was often considered untouchable even when obvious issues were observed.

I have been working at Engle Martin & Associates (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The overall environment is pretty laid-back. No one will even bat an eye if you walk in late, so long as your work is done and your hours are put in.

Dress is casual. It's OK to occasionally check personal things on a work computer. No sense of "big-brother" while working.

Upper management says all the right things as far as wanting to create an employee-centric environment, and seems very open to suggestion.

401K matching up to 4% is nice.

The people here are generally quite nice, which is the single largest factor mitigating the Cons.

    Cons

There is a disconnect between what the company aspires to be and what it really is. Within the past year they made a huge campaign based upon a book entitled "Everybody Matters". Management announced their intent to improve the work environment. Everyone received a free copy of the book, and meetings were held to garner employee ideas and advice to management. To-date we have yet to see any significant change in any process.

There is no opportunity for growth. Management hires the specific people it needs rather than building up existing employees to perform those necessary tasks. Promotions are extremely rare and those that do occur seldom come with corresponding pay increases.

The workload is enormous and tedious. Taking a day off is impossible - the expectation is you will complete all work upon your return. And this isn't necessary - it's merely a result poor management and workload distribution.

Mid-level managers are nice but often without any real authority. Suggestions are stated as "welcome" but in truth are hard-fought and rarely implemented; management tends to view different ideas with caution and an air of suspicion. Contrary to management's intent, new ideas have to come from the top-down and not the bottom-up.

Pay is OK, not great. Raises occur only during annual reviews, and are not commensurate with increases in responsibilities.

Benefits package is offered, but the health plan is very expensive for a family.

The claims-handling industry is riddled with sweat-shops and terrible workplaces, and this is Engle Martin's saving grace - Engle Martin isn't great but saves itself by being slightly less bad than the competition.

    Advice to Management

Being the best in a terrible industry doesn't make a good company; measure yourself against the best companies rather than the average and mediocre.

    Pros

The company has a clearly defined vision. Managers really care about their employees and their work/life balance.

    Cons

As the company continues to grow they need to continue to deliver the positive message

    Advice to Management

Stay engaged with the whole company and all employees

    Pros

Company culture is one of the best things about working here. Employees are valued and treated very well, benefits and pay are very competitive, strong focus on a solid work product, room for advancement, opportunities for professional growth through some of the courses offered to employees.

    Cons

I can't think of one at all

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing - it's working well!

I worked at Engle Martin & Associates (More than a year)

    Pros

I really liked the flexible work hours and the fact that there was a team of Admins who helped each other when needed.

    Cons

Ugh. Where to start. Management has no clue what they're doing. It's like on-the-job training for them. The company few too fast and operates like a start up trying to run with the corporate big dogs. Terrible sexual harassment. Terrible favoritism. East coast employees pampered (HQ is there), other regions neglected. Archaic systems utilized, no streamlined processes. Mgmt. always late on performance report and won't backdated raise to anniversary date. Too much to list...

    Advice to Management

Communicate professionally and directly with employees. Implement UNIFORM systems. STOP CC'ing everyone and their mother on emails - not everything pertains to everyone. Implement sexual harassment training!! Stop the double standards in treating male vs female employees! Recognize employees of ALL regions! STOP trying to place employees in "gotcha" situations. Train those HR incompetents on current Labor Laws and how to directly, not vaguely, respond to inquiries.

I worked at Engle Martin & Associates (More than a year)

    Pros

Co workers were helpful and benefits were okay.

    Cons

Very unorganized. No clear line between bosses. Never knew who the exact reporting manager was. Was very overwhelming as I was hired to do one job and ended up taking on many that was never in my job description, with no raise over the two years that I was there. I am also a single mom who caught a lot of slack over taking my kids to their appointments even when I had given a good amount of time before hand to let them know.

    Advice to Management

    Do better period.

I have been working at Engle Martin & Associates full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company has a great culture that they try to work on continuously. There are a lot of opportunities for growth, both personally and professionally, especially if you are proactive about it and speak to your manager about things you'd like to pursue (that are job-related). There are career paths for adjusters and support staff across departments. 401K matching program is good. Offer full health/vision/dental benefits. Company continues to grow.

    Cons

Communication between departments has improved tremendously, but can always continue to improve. There is no maternity leave option, just short term disability.
