I worked at Engle Martin & Associates full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Healthcare plans are good, PTO is nice. Some offices allow flex time, a few allow mostly work from home.

    Cons

Pay after non-reimbursables is often $10-15 per hour for many accounts, sky-high expectations, unending hourly expectations, culture of very direct communication. They don't pay mileage (although they bill it to their clients) so subtract 10-15k or so from whatever they tell you in the interview, most adjusters put 20-40k miles on their car annually. They have a lot of files where your share of the fee schedule doesn't cover mileage to the scene....pro bono adjusting. A lot of their accounts bill at 75-90 per hour. You see 20% of that until year 3...($15-$18 per hour) and then you need to subtract mileage and other non-reimbursed from that figure...so $10-15 per hour after expenses. They push the bonus hard but it takes 2-3 years to see it - you'll be on one of their many pro bono adjusting accounts year 1 and will struggle to get into bonus territory. Year 2, 1/3rd of the bonus is deferred to year 3. I doubt 20% if hires ever see real bonus money. There's also a lot of nepotism, a few dynasties have about 25% share of the company. During storm season, they want 7 days per week, 12 hours a day for months on end. They've lost 2 major accounts this year, and another has gone from their biggest client to about 10% of their business. Just nope right out, its very low pay for very long hours.

I have been working at Engle Martin & Associates full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Pay is adequate but not for the long hours, benefit package is average

    Cons

Get everything they tell you in writing and make them sign it. They lie and go back on their promises. Long hours, unable to take your earned vacation time, work load is crazy. Too many managers not enough employees. Managers are not helpful. Too much the good ole boy system.

I have been working at Engle Martin & Associates full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Flexibility, able to make decisions independently, monthly employee events, I find that many employees must not have worked anywhere else. (I've read the other reviews) and while the company has streamlined and not filled open positions, the fact is that many have been spoiled and were actually under-worked . As an experienced employee I have never seen the level of "give back" that EMA gives to its employees in other much larger (and more profitable) companies that I've worked for. Benefits have improved year to year.

    Cons

Every company has some problems but EMA's do not directly affect my review.

I worked at Engle Martin & Associates full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good location, flexible work hours, laid-back environment

    Cons

People keep quitting and management won't hire replacements, so the work load keeps getting more and more unreasonable. Meanwhile my manager spent hours a day just chatting with employees she was friends with. She claimed this was her management style, but when the majority of the team is drowning in their workloads, this comes off as disrespectful and unprofessional. Managers should help pick up the slack of the employees who were fired or quit. I don't mind occasionally working longer hours, but the standard SHOULD NOT be for employees to come in on nights and weekends and break their backs making up the work of other employees who have left. You will feel like you are in a sweatshop with managers cracking the whip over your back instead of getting into the trenches with you. You will feel that this job saps all the energy and joy out of life. I would only recommend working here if you are desperate for employment and on serious anti-anxiety medication.
