I have been working at Enlighten full-time

    Pros

Smart and creative employees, fun working environment

    Cons

Got sold :( Fight or flight? Many have flown the coup

    Advice to Management

    Buy the company back

    Pros

    Nice accounts, some nice people.

    Cons

Some small-minded, unimaginative, petty people. Yes these folks exist at most companies, but these were especially noteworthy. Also, amazingly paranoid senior management person who actually felt my doing work in a coffee place was irresponsible, as someone could see my work. This was a foolish fallacy on multiple levels.

    Advice to Management

Hope you've gotten rid of your baggage.

    I worked at Enlighten part-time

    Pros

    Growth opportunities
    Fun environment
    Kind, smart coworkers
    Diverse, challenging work
    Lots of responsibility early

    Cons

A little bit "sink or swim"
Pay not very competitive at the time

I worked at Enlighten full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Some really great people, flexible schedule, free snacks, great benefits

    Cons

Some really manipulative people. After being there for several years, raises were impossible to get. Hard to move out of your current position. You hear things like "But you're so GOOD at that position" and you never get a chance to try something different.

    Advice to Management

    No advice...owner sold the company.

I have been working at Enlighten full-time

    Pros

    * The benefits are amazing, especially considering this is a small, independent agency.
    * Plenty of PTO time.
    * The work/life balance for the most part is excellent.
    * Lots of fun events throughout the year.
    * Most people are incredibly nice, helpful, and welcoming.

    Cons

    * Upper management seems to play favorite to the departments that interest them the most.
    * For a media agency, the amount of media actually management is small but yet that team is severely understaffed and is poorly managed. The same applies to the Analytics team.
    * Poor communication between departments.
    * Limited room for growth in most departments. Most employees are within the same role forever.

    Advice to Management

Don't play favorites. Honestly assess where the company is under-performing and address those areas. Otherwise, keep up the good work!

    Pros

Smart people. Value people. Fun culture. Emphasis on work-life balance.

    Cons

Nothing really. Sometimes size/location may limit business opportunities. Maybe a bit too process oriented at times.

    Advice to Management

Keep the culture going. Keep pushing hard for innovation and creativity.

I worked at Enlighten full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    -Good benefits and reasonable salary
    -Flexibility

    Cons

-Extremely cliquey. Not a company culture that welcomes anyone from the outside. You need to fit into their small-minded Ann Arbor point of view or you won't fit in.
    -Close minded.
-Over-thinking at its worst. Everyone would rather spend gobs of money having meeting after meeting and thinking and talking and analyzing and making charts and analyzing the charts ad nauseam than dive in and get things done or view things from a new point of view. Classic "Ann Arbor style" at its finest.

    Advice to Management

    Good luck.

    Pros

Flexible hours, Friday beer cart and outside BBQs.

    Cons

Its an ad agency with clients you might not get along with, but every agency will have that.

I have been working at Enlighten full-time

    Pros

The executive management is extremely approachable and treats everyone with respect, and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Employees are not micro-managed. There is none of the office politics you typically find at larger firms. The company has a wide-range of clients, so the work stays fresh and interesting from year-to-year. Company benefits are superior to what you'd find at Enlighten's competitors and the pay is commensurate with your job responsibilities. The physical office is open and well designed and is situated next to a woods just a few minutes from downtown Ann Arbor.

    Cons

Enlighten is not much for on-the-job training, so expect to hit the ground running. That said, everyone at the company is quick to offer help or advice when asked. Also, as a work-for-hire company, revenues can fluctuate, which has resulted in modest trims to the workforce every few years.
