I have been working at Epic full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    - You get to work on meaningful stuff. Then you get to go onsite and see your hard work in action to better understand how to make it even better for your end users. - The culinary staff produce the most amazing lunches for an "at cost" rate (typically around $3 for most dishes). - Cost of living is relatively cheap compared to many parts of the country. - Overwhelming majority of staff are competent, hard... working, and fun to work with. - Individual offices that you can generally decorate and furnish however, you choose. - Free coffee, tea, juice, and milk in break rooms. - Parking garages so you never really have to go outside in the winter if you don't want to. - Showers at work for those that run or bike in. - Very affordable health insurance rates and generally good pay and benefits.

    Cons

    - You may have to work many extra hours outside of the normal 40 hour work week in crunch times.

I have been working at Epic full-time for more than a year

    Pros

A lot of ability to choose what you want to do Good pay for a low cost area Will work with you through outside circumstances Have Laudable goals beyond profit Have the ability to move to different divisions quickly Give plenty of freedom to do work your way

    Cons

Does not let you know when you don't meet expectations creating a spiral of working longer hours to try to meet the assumed job needs. Requiring a conversation many of its employees aren't experienced enough to know to make. Difficult to transition between roles

    Advice to Management

Worrying about how employees will react to short term problems has created an atmosphere in which no one really knows whats going on but are sure they'd be annoyed by it if they knew. This especially a problem since it seems like employee feedback isn't listened to.

I have been working at Epic full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Opportunities for ownership, responsibility early on Good pay (compared to other entry-level IT work) Positive atmosphere Lots of training

    Cons

Constant task-switching. After a short time, time management becomes the biggest struggle which is frustrating if you'd prefer to focus your brain power on technical or strategic problems.

I have been working at Epic full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Working at epic you quickly are given a lot of responsibility and opportunity, with very good pay for most positions. There are some really smart people working at epic. The company tries to teach ethical culture, and to put the patient first. Some nice perks are the relaxed dressed code, single or double offices, great food. Health insurance is pretty good. The campus is pretty neat, though you spend most of your... time in offices or meeting rooms. Also they mostly hire straight out of college, so if you are young there will be lots of people your age.

    Cons

With lots of responsibility can be lots of stress and long hours. It seemed to be pretty standard practice to assign everyone more work then they could handle, so you have to do a lot of prioritization. Some management is younger and not as experienced.

I worked at Epic full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Good pay and awesome raises - Good benefits (discounts at shops around town, awesome health insurance that covered my multiple hospital stays that turned out to be brought on by the stress of the job)

    Cons

    - Which team and customer you're staffed to is completely up to random chance, and sadly that determines how sane you will be by the end of your Epic run. - The dominant culture is one that considers a 50+ hour work week to be the norm. And you'll never get properly compensated for caving and doing that on a weekly basis when you feel pressured to because everyone else is doing it and you feel lesser than when you... don't. - Your perceived performance is based on comparing you to everyone else on your app team, which isn't necessarily fair or a real reflection of one's actual abilities since performance is highly dependent on what app you're on and who you're customer is which, again, you will never have any say in.

    Advice to Management

Make sure that supervisors actually have time for the people they're meant to supervise and help. The staffing considerations are never realistic.
