I worked at Epilepsy Foundation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Our programs made a difference in people's lives. The medication programs, seizure first aid training for schools, camp program and support groups were the focus of our work.

    Cons

In recent years the focus has shifted to fund raising while cutting programs. The organization has built up huge cash reserves while cutting back on programs. Staff has been cut back by 25%.

    Advice to Management

Do not allow board to micromanage operations. They are concerned about bottom line on accounting reports... not how we are helping individuals with seizures. Little or no involvement by board in programs

I worked at Epilepsy Foundation full-time

    Pros

Generous time off is about the only pro here.

    Cons

Health insurance leaves a lot to be desired. Contributions and co-pays are high given that many of the employees are low paid. Employees that are not clinicians are treated like crap and are overworked. Ideas not fully appreciated by management and employees that are not submissive are fired.

    Advice to Management

Stop overworking employees and value them as human beings.

I worked at Epilepsy Foundation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Nice supervisor
    Small office
I really like the office building and we were allowed to partake of the activities there. Good paid time off. All holidays were paid. Staff were very nice. We had a kitchen.

    Cons

Nothing to complain about really. Overall a good experience. The city was far for me to travel. Not their fault.
No in service trainings. Trainings should always be ample as they help to develop employees.

    Advice to Management

    Offer more training

I worked at Epilepsy Foundation part-time

    Pros

As a recent college graduate, this was a great opportunity to work with a non-profit. The job allowed me to make connections with people that I can still utilize today.

    Cons

The pay is relatively low, regardless of position in the organization. Therein, there is also very little mobility or job growth within the organization.

    Advice to Management

People generally work with non-profits because they WANT to. Unfortunately, the lack of consideration and awareness among management can cause many of these people to look for other opportunities.

    Pros

The company does a lot for the community. Their employees believe in the mission. The current management is trying to implement innovative ideas.

    Cons

Limited funding. Communication between headquarters and affiliates is limited. There is a lack of strategic organization.

    Advice to Management

Work on creating a better organizational structure that enhances communication between headquarters and affiliate organizations. Align with other nonprofits to strengthen the organization's finances.
