I worked at Epilepsy Foundation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Nice supervisor
    Small office
I really like the office building and we were allowed to partake of the activities there. Good paid time off. All holidays were paid. Staff were very nice. We had a kitchen.

    Cons

Nothing to complain about really. Overall a good experience. The city was far for me to travel. Not their fault.
No in service trainings. Trainings should always be ample as they help to develop employees.

    Advice to Management

    Offer more training

I worked at Epilepsy Foundation part-time

    Pros

As a recent college graduate, this was a great opportunity to work with a non-profit. The job allowed me to make connections with people that I can still utilize today.

    Cons

The pay is relatively low, regardless of position in the organization. Therein, there is also very little mobility or job growth within the organization.

    Advice to Management

People generally work with non-profits because they WANT to. Unfortunately, the lack of consideration and awareness among management can cause many of these people to look for other opportunities.

    Pros

The company does a lot for the community. Their employees believe in the mission. The current management is trying to implement innovative ideas.

    Cons

Limited funding. Communication between headquarters and affiliates is limited. There is a lack of strategic organization.

    Advice to Management

Work on creating a better organizational structure that enhances communication between headquarters and affiliate organizations. Align with other nonprofits to strengthen the organization's finances.

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

I had the opportunity to work with a great core of people who were passionate, driven and very intelligent. I also felt that my work made a difference to the constituents that we served.

    Cons

Lack of transparency from upper management about company status
Many of the individuals in leadership positions were brought on because they were friends of people in management. Hence some had very poor management skills and lacked the passion and leadership skills

    Advice to Management

Hire individuals with experience, passion and people skills to support and nurture the skills of the staff

    Pros

A good cause. Caring volunteers. Good location outside of DC.

    Cons

See current reviews. Favoritism, lack of respect for those who are trying to be professional, acting more like a corporation than a minute cause-driven organization.

    Advice to Management

The Board needs to step in with a clean eye, and realize that they are the boss!
