I have been working at Equinox Fitness full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Flexibility with schedule
    Pay (low salary, high commission)
    Company culture
    Upward mobility/career growth
    All around a great company

    Cons

    Working occasional weekends
Long hours, sometimes 50+ per week
Cons are few and far between compared to pros

    Advice to Management

Make sure to be honest about hours during the interview. The hours are longer than expected, but the pay, team culture, and schedule flexibility is worth the hours

I have been working at Equinox Fitness full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Can make excellent connections, clean and beautiful gyms, their programming requirements really get you organized and in line and you really do continue education. Good experience and lessons to take away from this company.

    Cons

Management does not care about their trainers. Pay is decent compared to other gyms, but equinox takes close to 70% of your session rate. It also depends what gym you're in, some are easy to reach full time, others, like the corporate ones, have an extremely high turn over rate. Instead of helping their veteran trainers and providing clients they consistently hire and hire more trainers and prospects become scare. Also, like any other corporate environment you must bend to and play along with managers to get ahead. Very political and very cliquey. Promotions seem to be by who likes you most instead of how phenomenal your training abilities are. Also strange, female corporate employees tend to only take to the young male trainers...

    Advice to Management

Take better care of your number one selling point-your trainers, may more, support current trainers.

    Pros

Everybody there was so smart and brilliant. The expected you to perform at your best always. They believed their clubs are number 1. Very great school for learning.

    Cons

Sometimes a very clicky sometimes unrealistic expectations, bu in the end nothing really bad just a hard hustle sale....

    Advice to Management

More vacation time or breathing room away from club.

I worked at Equinox Fitness part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Consistent schedule and client base which means you'll see the same people/be able to build a report with them and figure out what they like. Management does not micromanage and you have the help of other shops when looking for specific items.

They also do a good job getting managers of other shops to your location to train/show you things that work at their shops. Great way to learn and try something a little different.

    Cons

Depending on your location (foot traffic/timing of visits) some shifts have a better chance to sell.

That said, unless you live and breathe active wear/fashion the job can get a little boring.

    Advice to Management

At my location the GM/AGM knew nothing about my job aside from my sales goals. I think each club would benefit from the regional shop manager training the GMs/AGMs on the systems and why certain things are the way they are.

There were a few situations when I started that I needed assistance and no one at my location had the knowledge I needed.

Though I will say that my regional manager was FANTASTIC.

    Pros

Everyone is super high energy and always willing to help! Pay is above minimum wage, and you get a free gym membership as well as awesome discounts around the gym!

    Cons

If you aren't a quick learner you might struggle at first, and it might be a little hard to get a lot of hours

    Advice to Management

    I really like the managers!

    Pros

free membership.....and discounts at the spa

    Cons

Equinox has to be thee WORST company to work for. All of the employees are underpaid, ESPECIALLY the Front Desk staff. The position is not just scanning people in, you have to cater to everyone on staff as well as the members. I had 3 managers within a 6 month span, and was forced to work with the flu and conjunctivitis! all because no one would cover my shift Members spoke up for me and my boss still did not care, matter of fact I was fired 2 weeks later because members defended the unfairness or my treatment. Either the people they put in charge of the locations do not care about their employees or the company as a whole does not care.

    Advice to Management

management at your gyms, I wouldn't even recommend Patrons purchase a membership.
