Got injured at Equinox due to their equipment being old/ not checked and it breaking. Left a scar!! I’m not going to sue but any ideas how to get compensated? I’m thinking of asking them to pay the rest of my year … I have pictures and told someone day of what happened so they’d document it.

    Went Downhill

    Pros

Flexible hours Was good before summer 2022

    Cons

i worked at Equinox in Scarsdale for over a year as a FD associate. When I started, Equinox was a great minimum wage job to work at. The last few months, everything changed. New management came in that was disrespectful and abrasive. Clear favoritism was shown by them. For example, a coworker and I quit at the same time. On my last day, no one said bye to me. On my coworker’s last day they brought her a cake wishing the best of luck. Another example, a coworker who has been there for less then a year got promoted, despite the fact she takes months off at a time and smokes w**d in the building. I worked 35 hours a week in the summer, covered shifts all the time in positions that weren’t in my job description. The original managers were always grateful and appreciative making the job worth it. New management is utterly rude to minimum wage employees and members. Further, the new membership advisors create an incredibly uncomfortable environment for females, with their blunt s*xual innuendos and comments. The management and membership advisors created a truly disgusting environment, three employees (myself included) who were there for over a year quit.

    General Manager

Mar 17, 2023 - General Manager in Beverly Hills, CA

    Business Outlook

    Pros

    - Your colleagues and a select few members are going to be the best thing about this role. You will have a new family as you are all going through it together. - Decent pay if you hit your bonus - Free Gym membership

    Cons

    - All major holidays and most weekends you will work. They require the last 3 days of every month for you to work 12 hours a day as a GM and sales - Leadership team - Essentially non-existent to help you with difficult conversations, they will only stop by and do an audit of your club. Literally wiping fingers for dust, etc. - No job security - I was top GM in the company at the time I was laid off during the pandemic. I was dismissed so that the regional director at the time would have a spot to drop down to as his position is not necessary. - Members are the actual worst and will come after you with everything. I've known GMs to be spit on, cussed at, and received multiple threats. Not at all uncommon.

They paint a different picture than what it truly is

Feb 24, 2023 - Esthetician in Los Angeles, CA

    Business Outlook

    Pros

-Set your own hours -Commission on services -20% automatic gratuity (but if clients aren't happy, they will tell you not to add tip) -Some managers are okay (depends on situation and club) -If you are a hustler, this job is for you: they market it as "this is your business within our business" but it is like pulling teeth trying to get clients from the floor (can vary club to club but so far, I have noticed it's the same across the board) -Free gym membership

    Cons

-0 to 3 clients a day unless you have been there for years -"Tools" are given to you but you can't use them to your full potential (ie. print out a sign for you to advertise but you cannot leave the sign under any circumstances and cannot have it out every shift) -Managers know the spa is SLOW and always comment nonchalantly that you're there the day.., pretty uncomfortable. Again, varies by club. -Not having any clients for days kills it

    Pros and Cons of EQX

Dec 5, 2022 - Personal Trainer Tier III

    Business Outlook

    Pros

    - The culture of Equinox is what kept me around. I had extremely strong friendships with coworkers, felt respected by managers, and enjoyed having my free time spent at a luxury gym. - The facilities and classes are a huge perk, I became so spoiled with the brand new equipment and luxury locker rooms! - It is a great way to build your business as a new trainer since you aren't responsible for finding random leads. Yes, you have to cold call and nail your equifits (Where you sell yourself to potential training members) but at least you have a lead pipeline -

    Cons

-Very tough financially, physically and emotionally to ramp up. If I didn't have my parents house to live in right after I graduated and began working with Equinox, I don't know how I would have made it that first year or so. - Members can be huge brats - They expect you to be there around the clock and do not allow (or at least didn't when I worked there pre-covid) you to train other clients. Also, they give you a hard time about juggling a bartending or non-training job too - Corporate can be very into micromanaging, so if your immediate manager isn't respectful and great like mine was, I can see how they would feel the pressure from higher up and pin it in you
