What’s the best way to have a lack of compensation and incentive conversation in your department? I went above and beyond for years doing extra work, organizations etc and nothing has been reflected in pay. I thought my 5 year was going to finally show something but it did not. I’ve inquired about pay but it’s gotten nowhere.

    Pros

You make your own schedule. If you are young and don’t have a market to work, Equitable is the largest 403b provider in the country. Working with educators requires networking, driving around a lot, building meaningful relationships with admin, and allows for you to build a business over time that you can mold into how you see fit. There’s a huge network of advisors within Equitable that are specialists in certain areas so there’s always someone to bring in that can help with things you may not be as versed in. Upper leadership is very inspiring and training is #1 in my book.

    Cons

There could be more help on the business processing side as an individual advisor. It’s tough to learn but if you’re a problem solver you can get it done. Even though there are many peers to ask questions, it would be nice to have someone who helped things get funded. Company is designed for you to build your own business and eventually you hire someone to help with what I mentioned.

    Pros

A lot of resources aimed at developing advisors. Great retirement benefits

    Cons

Salary is non-existent and the taxes taken are excessive. They give an option for salary but is not worth taking.

    Lack of Training

    Sep 14, 2022 - Financial Advisor
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

They have Good Product to offer to your client,

    Cons

If you are a new Hire, be ready to quit because they really need a trainer to help you be successful. Be ready to struggle the hard way, not by physical force, but on your persuasive and analytical skills. You must overcome your fearness to be a failure and become a winner. You must show you are charismatic with people and good listener, and good talker specially on the phone. Your stress lever and blood pressure will be high, make sure you have your proper medication handy. This will help you be successful. you are on your own running the show. The lack of support is very slow and you need to make move to survive. But if you are a person with positive attitude and willing to go all in and take risk until you make it. This place is ideal. Sky is the limit. it would be great you if you get lucky and have a mentor, or trainer to show you all of this. But hate to say this, this company doesn't have one. you need to figure this out by yourself. in fairness if this company want to be a great company, hire a trainer. This job is for winner only, or experience advisor. if you are not a winner, please quit and look for something else.

    Honest Review

    Oct 21, 2022 - Vice President
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Company offers a great compensation package for commissions. A lot of flexibility is offered because at the end of the day, it is your business. Some branches have great leadership/management. No income limitations.

    Cons

Some upper management can dwindle your encouragement in the business. Very limited support. "Go figure it out" model. All prospecting is on you, very little help getting leads. No training other than Equitables digital training platform. For first year advisors, salary and commission route is low compared to other companies. 100% commission route is tough in general, especially without a good manager that would be hands on.

    It's a boiler room

Nov 10, 2022 - Financial Advisor in New York, NY
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

-Very straight forward path to success -Take the full commission contract and not the salary option -it's a boiler room, make 500 calls a day with a confident pitch and you will find some success -Fantastic jumping off point, get your Series 7, learn how to take constant rejection and then leave

    Cons

-You are not guaranteed a manager that will care about you, I was lucky to have one that did -It's likely you will not get paid for your first 2-3 months there -Hard to get to a contract for most -Culture is exactly what you'd expect, lots of kids who haven't faced adversity -Most successful strategy for landing opps is bait and switch

    Stay away

Aug 30, 2022 - Financial Professional in Syracuse, NY

    Business Outlook

    Pros

No pros to working at equitable.

    Cons

You will be constantly required to bring in new clients to high fee investments that are a rip off. This means badgering people to the point that they hate you. Cold calling and harassing people to sign. Equitable does zero marketing so you are required to give a spiel about who equitable is every meeting (clients have never heard of you). Your manager and equitable take half your commissions after you do ( it’s in the contract). In this job you will be required to cover all of the expenses associated with running business. This includes paying rent to equitable for office space, fees for software, and broker’s errors / omissions insurance. Don’t forget covering the cost of your initial exams. Basically equitable treats their advisors like disposable used car sales people and passes majority of the costs to them. When you try to leave they will send you letters threating to sue over “commissions / fees / e&o insurance” that you suddenly owe. I have never meant a group of more toxic people than the ones that work here. They get off on preying on teachers, uneducated, and elderly. Seriously avoid this place it was a huge mistake for me working here.

Thank you for reaching out to Equitable Advisors. It is challenging to find the right career fit. When entering this noble profession, candidates should evaluate the different industry avenues available to them: banking institutions, wire house, life insurance and financial advisors. Each opportunity has vastly different business models, if you are interested in an opportunity that has an open architecture with a hybrid model that you are in control of your destiny but not alone, Equitable Advisors maybe the perfect fit.

    Pros

Some friendly co-workers that were very good at what they did. Many of them were not be trusted and had no choice whether to work with them or not.

    Cons

This is a MLM insurance company. Management only cares about making money on new hires so they;re constantly recruiting. Once they have made all their money on their natural market they’re recruiting the next group. Rinse and repeat. They don’t take care of their existing advisors and very few make it through their first years since they have to validate and they set unrealistic expectations. The only ones that make it are friends and family of management. My manager didn’t check in on me in over a year while I was there.
