I have been working at Erickson full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people that you will be working with are some of the nicest co-workers you could hope for, from different backgrounds and experiences.
There is a lot of movement in the company, if you show initiative and professionalism there is a lot of opportunity for career development.

    Cons

The company is top heavy with VP's and senior management. The decisions these people are making have an impact on a lot of people, these decisions have been very questionable lately.

    Advice to Management

Think long term, not just short term. This is the reason why the company lacks stability and is in the current situation.

I worked at Erickson full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Talented coworkers, the smart ones will/have moved on to other pastures. The workers strive to make a difference for the customers each day in and day out.

    Cons

Lack ability/willingness to listen to ideas from staff performing the work. Many managers are not forthcoming, nor truthful with you. Management possesses the attitude you should be grateful to have a job, rather than being recognized as an asset and truly part of a team.

    Advice to Management

Be leaders, not just the boss. Communication: The biggest problem is you don't listen to understand, you listen to just reply.

I have been working at Erickson full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Fun projects to work on, great employees. The company was an excellent place to work years ago before Udo screwed it up. Maybe going through bankruptcy can fix some things.

    Cons

Management in Central Point has completely unrealistic expectations of their employees. Combine this with completely disconnected management in Portland, layoffs, and bankruptcy and you have a very bad situation. I have seen many of my friends laid off and then have to pick up their work. On top of that management imposes very aggressive schedules that are completely unrealistic.

    Advice to Management

All of the company problems can't be solved by working more overtime.

    Pros

Great company culture, some really good honeat hard working sincere people in lower management who care about their groups and their job. They have some great directives but everything seems to fall thru just shy of completion. Most employees their seemed to have a positive outlook and enjoyed working at erickson.

    Cons

Upper management is too far removed from the worker bees" and are willfully ignorant to that side of the company. Acquiring Evergreen was an anchor and hinders Aircrane operations and the entire company. Everyone knows it. Upper management is a bit top heavy while low pay scales are held at the hourly range, continual layoffs causing low morale, distrust and animosity toward upper management.

    Advice to Management

Take a pay cut. Sell off that albatross around your neck and split off from evergreen. Get back into aerial operations. Go back.to privately owned or even employee owned.

I have been working at Erickson full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The down sizing has helped young employees like myself take on more responsibilities and learn a lot really fast. Doing it for the 'resume bullet' not the pay. Its fun tho..co workers are great.

    Cons

Just like every company I've ever worked for..they just use and abuse young people because they can and not pay them what they are worth. EVERYONE at lower management is just too over worked. The moral is low. Nothing seems to get done. They are still trying to blend Aircrane and Evergreen Ops. Its still messy.

    Advice to Management

Develop clear lines of communication. No one is on the same page. We get directives passed down but no tools to follow through on anything no matter how hard we try. If you don't start paying the hourlies a wage that keeps up with the rising cost of living down here I can not stay working for Erickson. There are much better places to go that pay more and I won't have to live in 'Meth-ford' Im only staying because I am enjoying the work for now.

I have been working at Erickson full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly environment. Great people to work with. Very proud to be a member serving the orange fleet. Best product in the industry.

    Cons

Very top heavy. Bad decisions made in the past. Huge debt load. Sinking ship. Often layoffs. Need to eject sooner than later.

    Advice to Management

My department management is top notch. The VP and up levels need to make right decisions and spend money wisely.

I have been working at Erickson full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Interesting contracts, 6/6 week rotation, pay is ok nothing to brag about.

    Cons

They dropped annual retention bonuses and the excellent insurance that they had as former Evergreen Helicopters, which in turn cost me 20-25k more a year in losses. Very clickish, there are the utility pilots and the retired military pilots. If you're not one or the other you will have to deal with the games they play, ie. Scheduling, overtime, advancements, opportunities throughout the company. The utility pilots are worried that they won't have a job if other pilots learn VR. The military pilots seem to think that nobody but them can fly military contracts. That doesn't include the clicks that are formed back at head quarters, it's aviation nobody should have the same job for 20 years, if they suck at it.

    Advice to Management

Verify flight hours and experience (Logbook) before you hire pilots. Just because they flew in the military or with HTS doesn't make them qualified or safe. Loose the ego, 212, 412, 214ST are not complicated airframes, every pilot in the company should be qualified in all airframes, helicopter is a helicopter. And don't bid on contracts unless you're willing to fulfill them.
