I have been working at Ericsson-Worldwide full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Training
    Benefits
    Current technology (some units)
    Good ol' boys get ahead
    Reception area always looks nice

    Cons

    Reorganization Reorganization Reorganization
High turn over, losing good people because forced layoffs
WAY too many contractors, burn & churn
Carrier projects no longer have in field CMS due to travel restrictions- but other groups travel excessively. Insane!
    Heavy middle management
Sweden team not engaged with market areas

    Advice to Management

Mandated performance reviews should be used in determining forced reductions.
Yearly surveys on management need to be expanded and realistic, not what Sweden wants to hear.

I have been working at Ericsson-Worldwide full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great healthcare benefits, fun place to work, schedule flexibility, (with the right manager). Pay is competitive with market rates. Paid time off is one of the best in the area.

    Cons

Very unfair advancement opportunities. If you do not have or have not established a personal relationship with a member of management or executive team, do not expect to be advanced. These opportunities are only granted to friends and family while management forces its employees to believe it is their sole responsibility to map out their career. However, it has been proven time and time again: An employees career path is well established prior to the employees presenting their career desires.

    Advice to Management

Use credential: Educations, experience and knowledge for considerations of advancement opportunities versus relationships. Monitor managers' selection and appointment to assure there is not favoritism in these appointments. At least question a managers decision to appoint the same person(s) each time.

I have been working at Ericsson-Worldwide as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Although there are times where you have no choice but to work late, a work life balance can be found for the most part.

    Cons

Some manager do not support their team what so ever and show very little respect. The stringent rules placed on you do not apply to them in the slightest. Although the poor treatment of others is made aware, nothing is done to change it. So after a while you just clock in and clock out keeping to yourself. It becomes miserable. There is no room for advancement unless you are close friends with those cherry picking personnel.

    Advice to Management

You should also learn to care about your employees which in turn would impact the delivery of great service to your customers. Respect should be a basic standard.

    Pros

Competitive base salary, short term (annual) bonus, and benefits
Consensus based working environment with high level of teamwork and empowerment
    Strong customer relationships
    Good culture and proud employees

    Cons

Overly bureaucratic and complex strategy and decision making process
    Risk averse leadership
Slow and resistant to embrace change
Long term incentive structure not competitive

    Advice to Management

Move to embrace change before it is too late. Avoid the past mistakes of Nortel, Nokia, Alcatel etc by driving focus on core product and services portfolio and retaining your best talent.

    Pros

Exellent culture with valuable benefits (Work from home, health care with no premiums, large 401k contributions, personal time off, etc)

    Cons

The telecom industry characteristically has sharp peaks and valley. This makes for long periods of over-whelming work followed by concerns for maintaining employment due to a lack of work.

    Advice to Management

Excellent middle and senior management presence.

I worked at Ericsson-Worldwide (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent benefits, professional environment, very good average pay, most people are great to work with.

    Cons

Swedish Company, controlled and micro managed by Sweds, Upper level management advancement/promotion is difficult as an american citizen (most upper lever positions are Swedes or non-USA employees. Too many reorganizations and placing incompetent managers as head of a department.
They limit upper level promoting from within. Extremely political and stressful environments. Anyone over 55 years is an endangered species.

    Advice to Management

Promote from within. Hire competent managers bases on skill and verified performance and true business match not because of an agenda for meeting hiring quota i.e. female, minority status, race or personal relationship.

    Pros

Ability to work across different areas, countries and technologies. If you end up with a good manager, you will enjoy working here.

    Cons

You continuously feel like you may get laid off every week. It's an art to keep a job here, especially if you do not click with your manager.
