    I worked at Ericsson-Worldwide full-time

    Pros

Smart and dedicated engineers as colleagues, good work-life balance, transparency in sharing technical know-how, very good benefits (for a non-Internet company).

    Cons

Ericsson is no longer a wireless technology leader - the Asian vendors have caught up and in many instances overtaken E///. The next two years will be painful as 5G money won't start coming in until 2019. All major decisions are taken in Stockholm by Swedes, limited career prospects at a remote site. Compensation is below par for the Bay Area. Media division is next on the chopping block. Morale diminishing after every quarterly report.

    Advice to Management

It should be obvious to management why they are unable to retain talent in Silicon Valley

    I worked at Ericsson-Worldwide full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Nice pay, educated people, good gym

    Cons

There are so many rounds of layoffs that I lost count. The fears are permanent. Sooner or later, layoffs come to everyone, because business isn't good.

I have been working at Ericsson-Worldwide as a contractor (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Ericsson is a great company, has great employee's, and the department I work in is one of the best. Both coworkers and management are supportive and interact well.

    Cons

The position I currently support is a contract position and currently coming to an end. Great opportunity to find something new as I have been there almost 7 years.

I have been working at Ericsson-Worldwide full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

. It has strong corporate governance and a history of being able to adapt to changing markets. It has a presence in many countries and understands the need for diversity. Ericsson is a market leader, in fact likely the market leader, in telecoms equipment.

    Cons

It also has problems that large companies tend to have. It will take you many years to advance, no matter how ambitious you are. It is led by large shareholders who have a very narrow idea of what modern business practices are, and a board that is mostly unable to understand disruptions like the internet, so it has a big problem innovating. Since it is the market leader it has a lot of competitive advantages, but those are mostly used to create a barrier to entry instead of innovating.

    Advice to Management

The corporate culture has a bit of a Swedish bent, which isn't necessarily bad, but it is really conservative. If you're looking for fiercely competitive business practices with an impatient, and highly talented culture, you may want to look somewhere else. If you're looking for a solid performer, that dominates its market, has collegial atmostphere and room to grow, then you could do a whole lot worse than Ericsson.
