I worked at Erie Family Health Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Busy team oriented family practice with amazing medical assistants.

    Cons

The pay is terrible for all the work medical assistants do and that pay raises are so little that it makes you feel unappreciated.

    Advice to Management

Pay your workers who are amazing more and thank them more often for all their hard work.

I have been working at Erie Family Health Center full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I enjoy the work environment. The people are friendly, professional, positive, patient (when you are new) and supportive. It's quiet and peaceful, which is why I enjoy the environment. My employees are nice too! I like how the departments have a get together to focus on our progress and goals to make our professional goals clear. I don't feel annoyed, frustrated, or angry when I go to work.

    Cons

I don't like how your sick days and personal days are seen as the same type of days. For a health center, it does not make sense to me that your sick days and personal days are seen as the same type of days. There were days that I genuinely did not feel well. As someone who recently graduated, you need the money. Erie does not provide a competitive salary, or pay rate. I guess the trade off is the work environment.

I worked at Erie Family Health Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They look legitimate and good walking in the door but when you really see the bigger picture it's downhill from there.

    Cons

Their training techniques are ridiculous and completely unorganized. They never have a yes or no answer to anything. Everyday is guesswork and you are made to feel inferior to everyone else when you ask questions.

    Advice to Management

Get a clue. Learn how to do our jobs before you start telling us how it should be done. Anyone can bark orders at others but put yourself in the position of lower level staff and see how you would handle certain situations. Seriously get a clue.

    Pros

You get to work in one of the leading community health centers in the city of Chicago. It gives you a unique look into a larger community health center operation.

    Cons

Erie puts a huge emphasis on promoting from within-- which is great, but senior management fails to see how managers supervise their employees. Work morale is low, there is little respect between managers and employees, and communication between the two is strained. Upper management takes their power very seriously, and there is little interaction between them and clinical staff.
Support for staff is low and there is little recognition for a job well done.

    Advice to Management

Leadership turns a blind eye to poor supervisors and low morale. Just because a manager is organized and completes tasks on time, does not mean they make good supervisors. There is no advocacy done on behalf of employees by their supervisors.
