I have been working at Espial full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good exposure to work on mission critical system, and able to play vital role of solution architect to many tier-1 European customers as their IPTV business grew with our company product.

    Cons

Poor strategic decisions of some products, leading to confusion and unnecessary anxiety on every day.

    Advice to Management

Retaining existing customers, and respect to employee's skills. Communicate periodically company goals, and steps required to achieve with feedback on progress made on the goals

    I worked at Espial full-time

    Pros

There is nothing good to say about the company

    Cons

The company is trying to survive and breakeven for years. It's a waste of time and money if you plan to invest in this company.

    Pros

It was a great place to learn IPTV technology, especially the VOD server technology. The middle management is really nice to work with, despite the senior management.

    Cons

The executive management is not fully competent to navigate the complexities of the IPTV industry at the current time. The NIH syndrome along with limited experience in US will set the company back in till 3Q09.

    Advice to Management

The management needs to fully understand the implications of some of the product decisions - not make the decisions emotionally or based on location. They would also need to raise the morale of their engineering team.

I have been working at Espial full-time

    Pros

Great technology in a rapidly developing IP TV market that will stand the team there in good stead as the TV experience moves to open internet technology.

    Cons

Espial is a smaller company size company that will remain susceptible to market changes and offers limited scope for career progression

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing...it will all come out in the wash.

    Pros

Company pays for parking/bus passes. Benefits are good as well.

    Cons

The company is a bit disorganized. The flow of information between management and employees and different departments is not very good. Often employees are left with little to no guidance on what is expected of them.

    Advice to Management

Actually manage your employees. evaluate managers and team leads to make sure they are communicating with their reports and passing along needed information.

I have been working at Espial full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Espial treats their employees well and the products which they develop are truly interesting and fun to work on
Lunch room dart games and other company wide events are a great break to get to know the other employees

    Cons

Every so often employees will need to come in on the weekends whether it be due to crunch time or being behind on tasks
Work somewhat relies on the company having contracts

    Advice to Management

Make sure that the company remains very flat so that employees can work directly with whoever they need to so that work can get done quickly without bureaucratic overhead

I worked at Espial full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits
    Work is not overly hard.
Customer relationships are good, well managed.
Good opportunities for Junior level developers

    Cons

Equipment is cheapest possible and getting IT to give what you need to do your job is a total struggle.
Those making technical decisions are non-technical.
There's an 'in crowd'. If you're not part of it, you'll never move up.
People that leave Espial tend to become frustrated with the culture and incredibly bitter leading up to leaving.
    Sporadic management structure and process

    Advice to Management

Make some tough decisions and fire those who aren't competent or doing their jobs. It doesn't matter if they're your friends.

I have been working at Espial full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I'm a new grad and working at Espial has been great. The work is varied and interesting and I've gotten a lot of support from management. People are friendly and helpful, with a small company feel, but because Espial is international you get to work with people all over the world. The environment is casual and flexible and the location, on Elgin, is easy to get to both for drivers and those who take public transit. Overall, my time at Espial has been wonderful.

    Cons

The office is kind of chaotic and messy, but we're moving floors next month. Because the company is international meetings can be at all hours of the day/
