    Pros

Your co-workers are awesome and talented. The building was nice.

    Cons

Unorganized upper management. They we good at starting up but not good as the organization grew ... too many decision made that were not well thought out.

    Advice to Management

More research and strategy before making changes.

    I worked at Esprit part-time

    Pros

Fellow retail associates are friendly for the most part. Cute merchandise. Pretty reasonably priced on the whole.

    Cons

Their whole approach to sales. As retail associates, we were told that we had to make "personal relationships" with every customer we helped. This involved asking for the customer's name and telling them our own, which made many people uncomfortable (some people just want to ask a quick question and move on)! Very very low wages and not great commission rates. Every hour an announcement was made on our personal headsets giving us a ranking of sales for the hour. I understand the logic behind this, but it inspired a level of competition amongst the sales associates that I think just led to even worse pushiness towards customers who hadn't asked for help.

I worked at Esprit part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Met some great people there and the location was amazing (columbus circle)

    Cons

Typical retail qualms - very long hours, especially if you close. There's no place to really sit and take a break

    Advice to Management

Refine the employee break "area" for the hard working employees

    Negative Outlook

    I worked at Esprit full-time

    Pros

Modern office, great mid-level management, loved my team so they really did focus on hiring people that were a good fit for the office environment. Management was eager to help internal employees move up with in the business.

    Cons

As with many global brands, it was very difficult managing the North American business when give direction by a corporate team in Germany -- very different styles worked and didn't work in the various regions of the world but with one line to select from, buying and merchandising appropriately for your country was difficult. Strict travel rules and PTO rules.

    Advice to Management

The management in the North American office was great. It just seemed there was a disconnect between the global headquarters and the regional offices in terms of product assortment that would ultimately be successful outside of Germany. A bit more freedom in the area of product and style recommendations would have been ideal.
