I worked at Esri as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great summer program with potential to become full-time.
Organized workshops that allow prospective employees to learn about the work culture, history, and products/services.

    Cons

The only con will be the hot summers.

I have been working at Esri full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

On-time paychecks, steady/consistent raises, dynamic environment, good benefits, great location, dedicated employees with can-do attitude

    Cons

Private company leaves decisions to 1 - 2 individuals, processes for decision making is sometimes counter-intuitive, no real promotion ability, cost-benefit analyses aren't really considered/thought-through

    Advice to Management

Be more open to ideas from employees, trust middle management more, provide more growth opportunities within teams, try to be more accountable for guidelines/direction -- don't flip-flop on decisions so easily

I have been working at Esri full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Secure, pay is just OK but cost of living raises yearly, great benes including free health care for the whole family, old school so they take care of employees

    Cons

Vertical structure, hard to move up, or anywhere; private company with deep pockets means expectations are low and deadlines are soft (I'm so bored). And, old school can be bad too, for example, working from home takes special permission, even though Broomfield is a remote office anyway

    Advice to Management

There are some silos happening that should be broken down. And, people's perceptions of a horizontal structure that makes it easy to move around are from the 1980's I'm guessing; it's very vertical with middle managers being added all the time. As they said in the movie Office Space, "I have eight bosses right now, Bob!".

I worked at Esri full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Awesome technology
The teamwork around Esri was, maybe still is, very invigorating and positive when I started more than 20 years ago. And the concept of be interested, not interesting is invaluable.
It was a very flat organization structure, and Senior managers were always available.

    Cons

The environment is changing. Lately, I was graded on how interesting I was, in a negative way.

Senior Management is now getting over obligated on outside meetings.

    Advice to Management

Management can spend some time outside, but should focus on staff they manage. The staff are achieving for/with you. Grow and evolve them successfully, and Esri will grow and evolve successfully.

I have been working at Esri full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Job security, good benefits, good work/life balance, Redlands' housing prices are much lower than LA/San Deigo/Beach cities

    Cons

Lower than average pay compared to industry standards, some managers are micro managers, Redlands is a small town with few options for a life outside of work apart from hiking
