I worked at Essence Securities as an intern

    Pros

I work in a small research group and usually the groups are small. So it means that I have a lot of opportunities to get the core material and opinions in the industry. Also you can go to visit companies and prepare the chief analyst with the strategy report. Really learn a lot in those half years.

    Cons

It is not so stable now with some important people leave to other securities and take many of his colleagues away.

I worked at Essence Securities as an intern

    Pros

    1. People are friendly. Everyone is willing to help
    2. Faces one of the largest group of individual equity investors in China
    3. At least 15% of employee promotion per year
    4. Relatively high bonus in the industry
    5. Start early on option business
    6. 40 hour working time per week. 1 hour lunch break

    Cons

    1. Base salary is relatively low
    2. Essence is not the top financial institution in China
    3. Mostly facing individual investors. There is an investment banking division that deals with institutional clients, but mostly what they do is to help small companies launch IPO

    Advice to Management

    1. The strategy to expand into new area of financial market is smart. But need to think of better way to promote option trading
    2. Should implement different performance measurement matrix for people on different roles. For example, tech people should not be rated on they sale value, but more on the work they do on a daily basis

I have been working at Essence Securities full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Company is growing, but still maintains a small company outlook to its employees. Excellent opportunities and environment to grow and learn.

    Cons

Management doesn't know how to manage, and priorities change on an hour by hour basis. No clear messaging or support from upper management

    Advice to Management

Improve communications top-down, and learn to delegate and empower middle management.
