I worked at Essendant full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Fast paced, safety first work environment. Friendly co-workers. Decent management structure. A good overall experience if you are in the warehouse field.

    Cons

Excessive mandatory same-day overtime. High turnover rate. Need to update the stable of order picker forklifts. At the end of the day, it is just a warehouse job.

    Advice to Management

Figure out the problem of the high turnover rate of associates. Hire "better quality" workers.

I worked at Essendant full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    I don't work there anymore.

    Cons

Everything from management, work space/load and equipment. Everyone back stabs each other to try and get ahead. Hardest workers get left with the most work. Management has their favorites, and they can do whatever they want.

    Advice to Management

    Quit

I have been working at Essendant full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Set schedule, weekends off, weekly paychecks, vacation days accumulate quickly, overtime frequently available, opportunities to learn multiple warehouse functions and to gain experience operating different types of material handling equipment.

    Cons

The hiring process is needlessly lengthy and complicated. The costs of the health benefits packages offered by the company have skyrocketed while the quality has taken a nosedive. The job itself is very physically demanding and full of safety hazards, yet management alternates between consistently demanding increases in productivity while simultaneously stressing the importance of a safe work environment, without... giving adequate pay raises to those of us who go above and beyond in exceeding performance requirements and maintaining perfect attendance. As a result, the turnover rate among warehouse employees in this facility is by far the worst I've ever seen.

    Advice to Management

Your employees are feeling burnt out and underappreciated for all the years of back-breaking work they've put into helping this company become a distribution powerhouse. Either give significant wage increases to those who have demonstrated high levels of dedication and work ethic, or at the very least make an effort to provide a decent benefits package that doesn't tear a massive chunk out of each person's paycheck.... Until that happens, new hires will have little incentive to remain in the company and the staffing shortage will continue indefinitely.

I worked at Essendant full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Family oriented, nice amount of PTO and vacation days, good benefits, flexible schedule and bosses willing to work around family needs.

    Cons

Low pay and small rate increases, upper management is unresponsive and often unavailable. favoritism plays a heavy hand and lowers morale.

    Advice to Management

Be more attentive to employees and get out of the offices more to see what is actually going on on the work floor.

I have been working at Essendant full-time

    Pros

Lead and Manager care and are great people. Care about when you do get hurt and what not. More like a family. Laid back and easy going. Works with you. People are great. Pretty strict on safety

    Cons

Don't pay enough and higher ups managers don't care about employees. Higher risk of getting hurt. In a warehouse so having to deal with heat and cold.

I worked at Essendant full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Company Benefits ; 401K, Health, Dental and mix of miscellaneous others. A company that desires to advance and improve in many areas.

    Cons

Direct managers lack people skills and education. Poor recognition for individuals. Raises are only yearly and at a rate of 2% of current hour rate - $12 an hour = $0.24 raise

    Advice to Management

Need supervision for direct managers. They do not exhibit the company values. Quality employees will continue to be lost if changes are not made.
