I have been working at Essentia Health part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Company is very patient focused. They do live out their mission statement. Many resources available for employees. Allow and encourage work/life balance.

    Cons

Wages across the entire system are not consistent. Employer/union relationship is often hostile. Organization is somewhat top heavy with an extrodinary amount of senior management positions while staffing elsewhere is not adequate. Not much room for advancement if currently in a union position.

    Advice to Management

They need to value their employees by fair compensation across the organization and regions.

Great place to work and everyone is nice.

    Cons

Not very flexible with school schedules.

    Advice to Management

Be more flexible with school schedules even if the person is not able to meet their FTE every week.

I have been working at Essentia Health full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay and benefits. In the rank and file, you find great, smart, dedicated people.

    Cons

Middle and senior management is demoralized following a corporate-wide "diminishment" of job titles. In one day hundreds of people were basically demoted in the name of "servant leadership." Top management is increasingly out of touch and isolated. They focus more on abstract concepts and expensive building projects than daily operations.

    Advice to Management

I would give some, but they don't appear to listen to anyone but themselves.

I worked at Essentia Health full-time

    Pros

    Most employees were very helpful.

    Cons

Working without management at a site is not effective or correct. If you aren't there working how can you manage what is right or wrong?

    Advice to Management

Full time management in each department.

I worked at Essentia Health full-time

    Pros

The on-site food service was convenient.

    Cons

Leadership was inept from COO in West Region to CHRO to middle management. No training to adequately develop leaders. Not a career destination employer. Essentia is a place that is going to use up their people and move on to the next batch of recruits. They don't take the long view with talent. Values and practices are misaligned. If you have a choice to work elsewhere, take it.

    Advice to Management

Train your leaders to be competent. Get rid of executives that don't know how to lead and are more concerned about covering their mistakes. West Region COO, CFO and CHRO would be a good place to start. COO is the worse executive I have ever worked with. Why Essentia keeps him in his role is beyond me. He's a fraud.
