I have been working at Essex County College full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The paid vacation, sick time and holidays. Sadly all the time they give you off is what helps you cope with being there.

    Cons

I work in a department where everything and everyone is micro-managed. The supervisors must be cc'd on all e-mails, attend all meetings and monitor your EVERY move made from "finger scan in" to "finger scan out". I have never, in all of my years as a professional, worked in an area where staff were not trusted as competent and capable enough to execute their jobs without constant supervision. This is the type of atmosphere that stifles employees at the level in which they enter. You don't want your staff to grow, develop and blossom at the benefit of the department and ultimately the college. You do not want them to think for themselves or voice an opposing opinion. You have, unfortunately, fostered an environment of complacent worker bees instead of passionate leaders helping to move the college forward. The sad part is all of this is at the detriment of the students.

    Advice to Management

Staff reorganization will NEVER be successful/ effective if you keep the same people in director/ management positions who only look out for their own interests.

    Pros

Very good work environment. co-workers help you very much when you first start out the job. They make you feel like you fit in already

    Cons

there are a lot of people with attitudes here. During my time of working here this was the worst part .

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work and hire more students. Increase the pay. Decrease amount of emails sent to students and employees.
