Pros
1) Plenty of opportunities to grow and many locations to choose from 2) Competitive salaries and benefits 3) Job stability and supportive of work/life balance 4) Supportive corporate teams and departments 5) Offers a wide variety of training 6) Utilizes most current technological tools and systems and always looking into improving the efficiency of administrative, maintenance and residential tools 7) Great company culture, in general
Cons
1) Would like to see salary and commission structure/rates more in line with some competitors so that we prevent good employees from leaving for companies that offer more money. On the plus side though, in the years I have been here, I have seen employees that have left, return, so the grass is not always greener on the other side. 2) Would like to see higher employee discounts for apartments

Jul 22, 2022 - Resident Relations Representative in Los Angeles, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Good benefits. The hiring process is smooth. The promote work life balance but it depends on your property and management to see it true.
Cons
New managers are terrible most very toxic bullies. Alot of micro managing,, dictating with no real leadership and accountability. If you go to HR that gets nowhere, they are a joke. With this new role out it really shows that this company is all about making money and not about the residents or the face of the company ( residents relations, leasers and maintenance). More work and less staff where we are stretched thin overworked, overwhelmed, stressed out and underpaid. No proper training of the new job description and new policies. Now no real career path to climb the ladder with the Asset collections role out.

Pros
Most of the properties are nice. 401k & Great Benefits. Work and Life Balance is decent. Pay is okay, other property management companies do offer more.
Cons
Upper Management (Regionals & Area Managers. LA Region.) Need better communication skills. They never come walk properties. They are completely clueless in communicating new policies with their teams. Also, I have been with the company for almost 2 years, and I have had 2 different regionals in that time frame. Commission! Do not come to this company if you are looking to make a little extra in commissions. Recently a new policy came out. Only leasing consultants will receive renewal commissions. If you are a manager at a building with 200 or more units you will not receive renewal commission. Even though the managers are the ones that approve pricing, generates the letters, posts and mails them. Seriously not fair at all.

Pros
Bonuses are pretty good and fair. A lot of holidays off. Useful meetings with closing the office to have the meetings. Company card for emergencies. Online SOP program for quick look up and review, very helpful.
Cons
A lot of shady regional managers and area managers. Abuse of power is visible. The CEO doesn’t care or really know what’s going on the site level at all. Over worked, under paid, unappreciated, short staffed all over the company but they think nothing is wrong. A lot of changes and additions to software. Our competitors even mention the software overload we have and think it’s quite funny but for us it’s embarrassing. Lack of communication across the board in this company. There is no work life balance due to the amount of work and expectations accompanied with our staffing shortages. Regional managers that pretend to listen but may not even have the ability to make changes themselves. I’m close to certain that the positive reviews are not real or at least written by people in the favorites group.

Pros
It's good within the first 60 days. Then you start needing a therapist b/c you don't know if you are coming or going.
Cons
*People aren't genuine and quick to backstab each other, Corporate Highschool *Employees are overworked and OT is highly discouraged *Most properties are very short-handed *Company Culture: What can you do for us.. *Constant revolving door with open positions never dropping below 140 (it's a small company) compared to the competitors who hardly have open positions *Zero lack of Upper Management support *Regionals are hardly available b/c they are swamped as well *Procedures change and Regionals wait until the last minute to send changes with expectations to change procedure overnight *Double standards for all employees--1 can do it but you can't *Don't think about voicing your opinion *LOW low pay compared to comps *Company events are lame *ZERO work/life balance (even though they preach it) due to too many open positions

Huge corporation lacking culture and low commission structure
Nov 17, 2014 - Leasing Specialist in San Francisco, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Just to be clear, I was a BRE Properties employee who was acquired by Essex through the merger. I only 1 stayed for 1 month and left right away once I saw how the new commission structure affected me. Here were some of my pros: Great rental discounts, especially if you are the on-call person that receives the pre-tax discount 3 weeks of vacation once you have worked there for 4 years Great ex-BRE employees that will hopefully foster a better culture
Cons
Comission structure for leasing specialists was terrible. Cut my normall commission by at least 60%. Just like in any leasing position, you don't get weekends off. Some properties have Sunday and another split day off. Work-life balance is decent in that you don't have to take work home Hard to take time off when you work in a small office Feels like a big corporation and lacking likeable leaders
