Great environment. Great management. Lots of opportunities to hone my craft. Its an exciting career. I love going to work every day and who i get to work with

    Cons

if sales are down it gets discouraging. Preselling is difficult in this economy. We no longer get commission on Blockbuster gift sales

    Advice to Management

Give us back our commission on Blockbusters so we have more incentives to presell

    Pros

All managers foster an environment of education and growth and welcome insight from those around them. A true sense of team and positive challenge is present at all times.

    Cons

Salary is considered part of a larger compensation package (including benefit options going beyond basic healthcare) and therefor may not seem to be as competitive as other, smaller companies.

    Advice to Management

Continue to go down the path of "leadership training" and fostering the growth of employees from within -- investing in your employees makes an immeasurable difference in their performance and skill level, not to mention loyalty, which in turn results in outstanding bottom lines.

    Pros

Always educated on new product. All managers were so nice! Everyone was always easy to talk to. Great work environment that supports education. They even do tuition reimbursement which promotes lifelong learning.

    Cons

Not enough advanced job openings. Many of the upper management jobs are in New York. There are some very long days on your feet. Wear flats and enjoy having an easy dress of all black.

    Advice to Management

Motivation is always important even during slow days in sales. Notice the talents of sales associates and bring attention to their hard work.

    Pros

The company provides great benefits. It is a stable company that is doing well in this economy. There are frequently job posting allowing for an individual to grow in experience. They also provide a fair amount of vacation days and summer friday's.

    Cons

Greater effort should be put in to grow the people within the organization. The company seems to have an attitude that it’s employees are not as valuable as people that can be acquired from the outside. i.e. people from the outside are paid much more money going into a position then a current employee.

    Advice to Management

Lately we have seen that the company is trying to grow its employees. This is great, however, there isn’t a practical way that is making this happen. i.e. giving some incentive to a manager to have his direct reports advance in the company. While I am very fortunate to have an excellent director and executive director. This is not the case with all. I think that attitude and treatment of others should be a greater factor in the promotion of people who will manage others. There are some people who are very talented but should not be managing people.
