Pros
We get an opportunity to learn and implement new technologies
Cons
You have to be in the right team in order to grow . The management always wants to cut costs so they dont need many people in the IT department so there is not much room for growth

CEO with a vision
Aug 24, 2016 - Anonymous Employee in San Francisco, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The President/CEO has a solid vision for the company’s future. A great customer experience is the top priority and infuses everything we do. The CEO also truly cares about the associates (employees) and genuinely asks for feedback – which he responds to personally. I have never met a more people-focused leader. The people who work here are also some of the most fun and smart people around. It’s really a pleasure to come into work. That said, it’s also possible to work from home on occasion. Some of our staff are 100% work-from-home. The San Francisco headquarters are in a beautiful and conveniently located part of town, and parts of the office have water views. Walks along the Embarcadero at lunchtime can’t be beat.
Cons
The company is working hard to improve areas of opportunity – mainly bringing the tech that associates use in line with the cutting-edge, award-winning technology we offer our customers. As a mid-size company, opportunities for career growth can be more challenging to come by, but again, something they are giving a lot of thought to improving.

Pros
Fast paced company. If you want to work for a company that has a ton of potential, this is the place to work. I have worked for Esurance for nearly 8 years and really enjoy the people I work with.
Cons
Esurance is a very liberal company. If you are not from California, the culture they try to promote, and sometimes impose on you, can take some getting used to. If you do not like "change" or prefer a rigid very structured job this is not the place for you. One of the cons, since we are growing so fast, is not all of the departments are on the same page.

Struggling to find an identity
Jan 4, 2016 - Claims Manager in Tampa, FLRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
When I began working here it was a company in flux trying to find an identity. There were good people in place and flexible. The culture here is really great. If you would have asked me 3 years ago I could never see leaving, however now.....That being said read below....
Cons
I have been here 6 years now and 4 in management. Sadly we are still struggling to find our identity. We outwardly portray ourselves as tech savvy when actually we are lagging behind almost every other company. I have been hearing for 3 years that compensation is being reviewed which appears to be lip service. We are losing top performers to other companies that pay well. Yes the culture is great however it has changed greatly. With the pay lagging behind the industry in my opinion and declining culture I see many more departures.

Pros
Made some great friends there
Cons
Compensation is lacking as compared to other companies in the industry. High turnover in upper management over the years has led to some severely unqualified people in positions they didn't earn. This company has been poorly managed and unprofitable for years, leading to high turnover rates. Stay away.

Esurance's QA Department Review
Feb 20, 2014 - QA Intern in San Francisco, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
1) Let's start with the one a lot of people pay attention to first. The pay rate. Esurance pays its employees absurdly well. As an Intern, I'm getting paid at a rate of $21/hr. 2) Now let's talk about the people. The people are friendly and nice in the company and once in a while they will host a fun event for the employees. 3) Location: It's a few blocks away from the Embarcadero BART station and has a few parking lots nearby so transportation is somewhat simple. As for restaurants for lunch, there's many places nearby to grab a bite to eat. 4) Environment: This can be either a pro or a con depending on what your tastes are. I've seen places where the lights are dim and lights are bright, places were people are rowdy and places were people are quiet. The building in which we reside has good lighting and in terms of background noise, the atmosphere leans towards the calm and quiet side but the employees are still social.
Cons
1) The people: This is really aimed more at my department in QA. The people in this department are somewhat anti-social and keep to themselves. Where you see the people in other departments being energetic, QA is this extremely quiet spot. The people are really nicepeople are really nicepeople are really nice but it takes a lot of work to get them to open up and socialize. From my short time here, I noticed that the people in the QA department tend to be more guarded towards newer employees but if you can get them to open up to you, they are very friendly people. 2) Holidays: The number of company holidays are noticeably less than the number of holidays other companies get. Here, there are only 6 holidays a year which the company will provide days off for. They generally are spaced out well enough so it doesn't burn you out but it's quite an endurance run early in the year.
