Pros
Made some great friends there
Cons
Compensation is lacking as compared to other companies in the industry. High turnover in upper management over the years has led to some severely unqualified people in positions they didn't earn. This company has been poorly managed and unprofitable for years, leading to high turnover rates. Stay away.
Advice to Management
Care about your employees, instead of just pretending to.

Pros
- Benefits start from day one - Coworkers are friendly and will do anything to help - Generous PTO - Allow you to flex schedules - Occasional lunches - Amazing training and trainer - Good culture and values
Cons
- Being on the phones all time can burn you out quickly - Horrible schedule for new hires - Constant changes to compensation, upper management and corporate constantly change this so you can barely make the measly $900 - Growth is stunted unless you are a superstar - No cross-training in different departments - Really difficult to transition into other departments - Most customers looking for auto... policies are VERY high risk, leads can vary per season

LISTEN to your employees... - we want more money not food - be consistent with goals - increase base pay and compensation if you want to keep people around

I worked at Esurance full-time for less than a year
Pros
You are not the only one who will feel the code base and technologies are centuries behind . The whole engineering team feels the same way. So you are not left out. Thats the only PRO, if you would call it one.
Cons
1. Legacy system that was written in 2003 when esurance was a startup. It has not been revamped in the last 16 years. 2. Upper management has no wish to revamp the code base 3. You won't learn a thing since no one in the director, senior manager and manager and principal developer roles know anything 4. People in the above mentioned roles just grew old with the software. They have been working in Esurance for... eternity (read 10+ years) and add to the doom 5. Team morale is very low because everyone hates how fragile and archaic the system is and no one has any direction on fixing it 6. There is absolutely no guidelines as to how the company will go ahead technologically speaking. 7. The system is so crappy, if you fix one line of code, be certain you are going to break something else unintentionally 8. They have so many contractors who have littered the system with code wherever they could put in. Not to blame them, there is no architecture to this system. 9. They are a company in SanFrancisco pretending to be a cool tech company but the truth is they are an insurance company and as long as they make money the management is NEVER going to push towards a better technology 10. The code base is a monolithic crap no one ever finds interesting to work on. Horrible place, YOU MUST RUN!

Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookDisapproves of CEOI worked at Esurance
Pros
401 k , PTO, Flex, Vision, Dental
Cons
Upper Management lost and disconnected from front line employees. All it is about numbers. They have embraced the credit card call center model, up sell coverage to broke insures, push discounts that don't work. If you don't, you will lose your job. You can't just help the customer anymore. So don't work for this company. They change total direction every 6 months, shows they are losing business.
Advice to Management
Get back to reality. A bag of candy and toy for for hard work is not enough. Employees are motivated by money.

"Esurance , Local Site Great. IT as Department is a Mess"

Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookNo opinion of CEOI worked at Esurance full-time for more than 5 years
Pros
Local Site was great to work at. Nice office good people. The medical benefits used to be good.
Cons
Poor IT Management from Site Managers to Directors. No communication at any level and that starts with the director. Lower IT management can only say YES to upper management, which causes problems for the IT team that does the real work(stressed and overworked). There was only a few IT managers that would question decisions from upper management, but they would always be trumped. If you are not working in... SF good luck getting prompted in IT department. Medical Benefits the last 3 years have been the worse. I could have paid for a small house for the cost to over my family in monthly costs and deductibles.

Pros
some people are really great to work with, a lot of money for trainings and conferences
Cons
middle management is horrendous and upper management has no clue how to shape the right culture, good people leave non-stop because upper management is unable to make the right decisions.
Advice to Management
grow a backbone and make some tougher decisions. don't hold meetings where you only say buzz words and don't have a point to make.

Doesn't RecommendPositive OutlookI worked at Esurance full-time for more than 3 years
Pros
Flexible schedule, pto, good benefits
Cons
Where do I start? Work life balance is non existent, too much work is given and the compensation doesn’t match. It’s all about who you know within the company. If you’re not linked in with a member of upper management, you can forget about a promotion.
Advice to Management
My advice to management would be to give timely feedback to employees, and also promote from within.

Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookNo opinion of CEOI worked at Esurance full-time
Pros
i got an opportunity to learn new technology
Cons
Their managers in IT are horrible to say the least. Nepotism and favoritism has led to many undeserving people promoted to upper management. As a result they don't understand how to manage people and expect people to be brown-nosers. Good developers leave as they don't want to work for a BOSS who does not understand tech nor take responsibility for their failures and point fingers at others. There is a lot of people... from Indian (asian) descent and they think that just because their title is manager or director, they can do whatever they want typical INDIAN BABU culture. Worklife balance is not there for developers, you will be called anytime to fix issues. I got regular calls at 2 AM even later. They depend heavily on people waiting for their green cards and abuse these workers as they know that they can’t change jobs easily. Pay is on the lower side of market and bonuses and promotions are only handed over to manager’s pets. The atmosphere is vicious teams work in silos, i saw that a senior manager and her team did not cooperate with another manager in their the delivery of a major initiative, lots of blame game. The company lost huge amount of money and time because of petty politics. They interview you for a certain position and low ball you with a lower position, so never accept a lower position as getting a promotion is very difficult. There is very less room to fail, so people are always trying to blame others. They make everybody sign a dignity pledge but it's funny how managers don't follow the pledge. Threats blame game, and making someone scapegoat is real. Don’t join if you want to work in american culture….

Sack your entire line of managers and directors in IT dept and hire some fresh (diverse in Race )people... Talented Developers will stay only if managers behave like leaders and not like a BOSS.. Make appraisals and reviews more transparent and dependent on entire team and not just the managers...
