good team / colleages but problematic leadership
Mar 21, 2023 - Software EngineerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
remote work, the immediate supervisor is good and great coworkers, learned a lot from them
Cons
outsourcing, extremely frugal to the point that employees are not rewarded for the hard work, feel like a mini version of amazon(well amazon at least has profitability with their frugality and has better base salary) and i suspect there is serious politics in leadership team

I have balance and I learn something new each day!
Aug 3, 2022 - Marketing ManagerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Brilliant coworkers! I’m amazed by how intelligent, crafty and determined that my coworkers are. Every meeting I have a takeaway or a learning I didn’t know previously about my trade. Transparency! There’s a ton of documents and processes that are outlined that make it clear what is expected, compensation, benefits, etc. The company is a great size to work on projects that have impact each day. Often at larger companies, you’ll spend time working on projects that never launch. The work you do here definitely matters, even if there’s several pivots, you get to see your work come to life! Flexible/unlimited PTO - it truly is! I often take days off at the end of a big project. I also took two weeks off at the start of Q1. You’re not shamed or denied for your PTO! (At least not in my experience)
Cons
The cons I list are common at startups, fast-paced, changing environments. It’s not unusual to have team changes or process changes, but it is usually because of a learning that will allow for better working efficiency.

Outsourcing everything to India
Mar 10, 2023 - People OperationsRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
I'm sure it's great if you're in India.
Cons
The company is outsourcing all roles that don't absolutely need to be in the US, to India. They also lie on their website by stating that they don't have commissioned sales agents, but they added commissioned sales agents about 2 years ago.

Pros
Remote is the only good thing here.
Cons
Terrible executives, don’t care about employees, slogan is BS, replaced for cheap labor after they had us train them, no real leadership, no room for growth, didn’t do any raises for me being there two years. Not even for inflation after promising me one.

Good motive destroyed by tech/insure bros
Jan 10, 2023 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
-Unlimited PTO (depends on your boss-see cons) -Remote work -Pay: for the roles they’re actually pretty competitive. -complex tech stack: if you want to get your hands on something you will. They run so much stuff and there’s no shortage on getting someone who can show you the ropes
Cons
-not-so-unlimited PTO: depending on your manager no matter how many weekends you work you still won’t get your PTO request approved because you take too much time off. One person had PTO rejected because of BEREAVEMENT they took the year prior. -diversity: I can count on my hands how many people of color we have leading this company. It’s one. While the company has done more to include women in these roles, it is not a safe place for women in the work force. One employee says she’s had men roll-their eyes at her while she’s tried to propose solutions. Being the only woman in meetings is difficult, let alone when you have the good ol boys club Been in meeting where women are regularly talked over and ganged up on. Sales if full of guys that all worked at the same company. Some of whom received promotions in three months over women in similar standing that have been there for almost 2 years. If you’re a sales bro this is your paradise. -throwing apps at problems: you can fix everything with an app, but what you get is a half-butted attempt at solutioning problems that are systemic or data related and SHOULD be fixed by proactive maintenance. -code testing is minimal to non-existent: every time we push something new out to meet a deadline the whole org goes up and we have to do a rollback. Which takes time, energy, and manpower we don’t have due to hiring freezes. It is so simple, drop the deadlines for functionality milestones and test your stuff so we don’t get red-alerts. -Sales is a call center based on false advertising: never mind that marketing doesn’t check in with sales to see if things are actually possible and never mind that none of the c-suite for sales has ever had to sell life insurance. You will be forced to be a BDR AND account executive in the same role. 100 outbound calls a day as well as follow up tasks and e-com’s. You will work long days and nights and even weekends, holidays aren’t of limits either. Non-commissioned agents still get bonuses for their sales, you can call it something else but if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck…it’s a commissioned sales agent. If you’re going to claim non-commissioned give back the 30% pay deduction you took from your agents during the sales model change. If you want to run a call center in the Philippines go back to the Philippines and run a call center but don’t expect LICENSED SPECIALISTS to work in unethical call center functioning on the lines of human slavery for a very long time. -No education stipend: if on the off chance you like it here and want to progress in your career it’s 100% on you

Ethos offers plenty of opportunity for growth with hard work and "Bias for Impact" which is one of their core values.
Cons
You really have ot put yourself out there and insert yourself where you see fit to advance. This may not be ideal for everyone's work style.

Some great people, chaotic mess of a conpany
Nov 16, 2022 - Software EngineerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Kind people on some teams who are supportive and involved. Remote work.
Cons
Shifting to a more with less mentality aka longer work hours, more pressure to deliver poor quality code Constantly shifting priorities with little investment in QA or sufficient research Making people change teams constantly so they can’t make sufficient progress or contributions Robotic lay off processes Laying staff off and then outsourcing for the same positions
