    Long time sub

    Aug 31, 2022 - Substitute/Guest Teacher

    Pros

    1. Pay is decent for on-call employment 2. Easy to work every day 3. If there is enough work, you can be picky about where you want to teach and what you're comfortable with (e.g. if you're better with middle/high school age, there's usually availability so you don't have to take elementary jobs). 4. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, schools express more appreciation for you.

    Cons

    1. Schools requesting one sub to cover multiple teachers during meetings (I know they can do it and it's more efficient, but every time I've gotten this type of assignment, it's exhausting and usually not particularly pleasant -- these are the assignments that make subs feel like glorified babysitters and not real teachers). 2. Sometimes your rights are unclear in situations (pay for meetings after school? and other things) and HR can drop the ball on explaining those things or just pointing you in the right direction for info.
