I have been working at Eurofins Lancaster Laboratories full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Team Building, Scientific Development and a focus on personal growth are a great part of the Eurofins Lancaster Labs experience. Professional Scientific Services are contract roles that allow you to work in the pharma field, with positions around the world. Even though it is a contract role, you still receive benefits through Eurofins (Health, 401k

    Cons

The pay is not as competitive for the work in the department I'm in. It would also be nice to gain differentiation for being an Engineer vs. a scientist.

    Advice to Management

Work with the Professional Scientific Services Clients and the internal company to expand family benefits. (maternity / paternity/ adoption leave). Create a place where PSS employees from different sites can discuss their experiances with each other and home office employees.

I have been working at Eurofins Lancaster Laboratories full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The coworkers are fantastic people who are very approachable and understand teamwork. The vacation days are decent. If you have open communication with management and you let them know your goals, they will make sure you reach them. The company is growing which is allowing for labs to become renovated and allow for growth within.

    Cons

The hours can be long and management tends to underestimate the amount of time to perform a task. High turnover rate because pay isn't the best. Definitely meant for recent college graduates.

    Advice to Management

If a test goes wrong, don't immediately assume the analyst is to blame. Please make sure analysts aren't overwhelmed and if they are, try to help make it easier for them.

I worked at Eurofins Lancaster Laboratories full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good experience for those straight out of college. Decent amount of Paid Time Off (PTO). Flexible start time. 10% differential for working on the second shift.

    Cons

It is a contract laboratory that treats you like one of their machines. You are expected to crank out a large volume of tests and disregard any work-life balance. Depending on your department, you may be severely micromanaged, further disrupting any type of work-life balance since you have very little say when you perform an assigned test(s). Also, dependent on the department is the amount of over-time that is expected. Some departments will expect 10+ hours in addition to the regular 80hrs (if not 10+hrs to the regular 40hrs). But then again, you'll probably achieve the required overtime very easily when they continue to assign you a 14hr test on Friday nights.

The management loves to play favorites. If your group leader does not like you, you will be cast in negative light to the higher ups because everything is filtered through your group leader. There is very little interaction between the higher up management and the analyst. This may affect your bonuses and raises. Also, the management (mostly group leaders) is able to gateway with egregious errors and still retain their jobs!

And the cherry on top--you are severely underpaid! Without any experience, or very little experience, you will probably start out at $16/hr. If you are fortunate enough to get promoted from the associate position, you may get an additional $1-2 raise;however, this will be your most significant raise while at Eurofins. From here, you will get 2%-3% annual raise and an annual bonus of $600-$700 (after taxes). To get promoted to senior scientist/chemist, you need to work an outrageous amount of overtime so that the company can put you on a salary where you actually start making less money than if your were paid hourly.

But hey, maybe your experience will be different.

    Advice to Management

Stop micromanaging your employees and pay them more. It'll allow more ownership of work.
Or better yet, make the company a better place and fire yourself.

    Pros

Easy work schedule. Travel time from home to this location is fairly good. Located within a drivable distance from York to Lancaster

    Cons

This is the most racist company ever there is. All their employees are 99.99% white. No sense of equal opportunity here whatsoever.

    Advice to Management

    Diversify!

I have been working at Eurofins Lancaster Laboratories full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Opportunity for overtime.
    Good benefits.
Good for gaining experience straight out of college.

    Cons

There were only two decent managers in the place and one of them left, so now there is just one.
There is a lot of favoritism that happens here. Promotions into management positions will happen without opening it up to all employees, they simply pick their favorite and make them a manager. This has happened three times in the past year for management positions alone. A good portion of employees hate working at ELLI, the demands and expectations are unrealistic. The pay is terrible. Turnover rate is high mostly because there isn't much opportunity for career growth, unless you're one of the favorites (and by that I mean never question current practices, don't argue about a questionable call made by upper management). Don't get me wrong I'm really good at my job and I get excellent reviews but the blatant favoritism, poor pay and crazy expectations are why you don't see employees sticking around.
Also there is no HR department at the Portage, MI site so if you need to file a complaint you're out of luck, not that they would listen to you anyway.
I would say that 80% of the employees that I know at this sight are looking for a new job because they hate it here.

    Advice to Management

Offer better pay (at least be competitive with other companies in the area)
    Treat employees fairly
Put an HR department on site
Actually allow employees to apply for available promotions.
Offer more career development and opportunity for growth.

I worked at Eurofins Lancaster Laboratories full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They will hire anyone with a degree, any relative science degree from marine biology/zoology to chemical engineering in order to work a chemist's job. They are expanding fast and turnover is very quick so there will always be a job for you.

    Cons

The pay is 16-18 hourly for chem jobs. Promotion to salary is pay cut and only given when they no longer want to pay you for the overtime. Avg work hrs are 45-50/wk. Gain very specialized experience, so don't stay too long or you won't be marketable to other pharma companies.

    Advice to Management

If you can't compensate your workers because higher up won't allow you to, at least treat them professionally. Only hire group leaders who deal with people well as most of your analysts will be very young and willing to move on from a job they dislike. Morale is incredibly low. Have some measurable consequence for group leaders who harass others. Took an entire year to demote a group leader who caused their group to quit in tears and leave the science industry altogether. Too much lost talent.

I worked at Eurofins Lancaster Laboratories full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Seem to be always hiring and are willing to put effort into training their workers.
The jobs are usually not to complex, and if you are capable of being highly consistent, you can probably do very well here. You can put a few years in here, and be well positioned to go back to school or get a job with a pharmaceutical company. It is a great stepping stone. They are usually rather flexible with your work hours though, which is really nice (as long as you are there everyday and minimum of 40/wk).

    Cons

Pay is not very good, but you will get some real title inflation. I was a "Chemist" right out of college despite the fact that it usually takes at least 10 years to get that kind of promotion in the rest of the industry. What I really was is "Chemical Technician" and was paid like one. They do not do a very good job of promoting people who are good leaders, but rather promote people who were good at the last job, regardless of their qualifications for the new position. Management will see you mostly as a number and an expense. Whatever they can do to keep their costs low (i.e. not pay you more) they will.

    Advice to Management

Stop the pay differentials. Pay everyone who has worked for you for the same amount of time and has the same title the same amount.
