I worked at Eurofins Scientific as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Lots of opportunity for creative freedom and to be an influencer on the executive level.

    Cons

Disorganized and an inability to move out of legacy systems and into new technology.

    Advice to Management

I would advise that there be better lines of communication and have more of a willingness to explore new technologies on the digital side.

I worked at Eurofins Scientific full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Positive work culture, community outreach, good training resources available (webinars, conferences) if you express interest to management. Can take pride in being part of the quality services provided. Benefits (insurance, 401K with matching, PTO) are very good. Local and mid-management are approachable. Some extremely hardworking people.

    Cons

Disconnection between lab and front office, lab over worked, pay is VERY noncompetitive, bonuses are small or non-existent, and there is a substantial lack of career growth and advancement. Upper management (at the senior/corporate level) are not interested in investing in personnel growth, would rather maintain high turn-over rate and replace with a fresh person at low pay. Could really be a great company if they would place a higher value on employee growth and retention.

    Advice to Management

Focus on retaining employees and meeting industry salaries and wages. Close the communication and social gap between lab and front office for a more cohesive environment. Establish a clear path to career advancement.

    Pros

Hire recent graduates with no lab experience. Gained valuable experience working with many different methods. Enhanced dietary supplements knowledge to help build resume.

    Cons

Low pay, lots of work. Can be unorganized and sometimes there's no help when working with different types of samples or new methods.

I have been working at Eurofins Scientific full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great people. Very good, supportive relationships. Level-headed organization overall. They do not get angry and emotional. The european influence keeps them very practical and even-tempered.

    Cons

High pressure, low pay scale. At times the pressure is unhealthy. Reluctant to hire new staff even when the work load clearly demands it. This puts an unnecessary burden on performers to pick up the weight. They are pushed until they burn out or leave, or both. On the other hand, low performers coast along without discipline or intervention. This is the most comment problem.

    Advice to Management

Focus. Focus. Focus. The company is very unfocused. It tries to do everything, so it does nothing well. Then it tries to do even more to catch up.

    Pros

    Employees
    Scope of Services
    Aggressive Growth Goals

    Cons

Poor leadership at President level and up.
    High employee turnover
    High stress
    Unattainable growth goals

    Advice to Management

Eurofins could be a great company to work for however, it simply isn't and it's due to lack of organization, leadership, competitive pay, average benefits. Very unfortunate.

    Pros

Able to use science and the scientific method to solve problems in the lab
    Excellent benefits
    Fun co-workers
Very good location (used to be north-central Des Moines, but is now Southern Des Moines)

    Cons

    Low pay
Excessive rules (e.g. no music on the job)
Managers can be aloof and treat employees like cattle

    Advice to Management

Provide leadership and build an environment where people can want to improve themselves. Recognize employees who go out of their way to do more than they have to.

I have been working at Eurofins Scientific full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great way to get a foot in the door with experience. Great benefits for a single person. Great way to make friends. Pay is good for recent graduate.

    Cons

Management usually doesn't set foot in the lab, so if unusual results happen, it is blamed on the employee most of the time.
Management expects you to stay overtime at times. Work is sometimes put on your list last minute and the work is expected to be done.
Favorites are picked all the time. You can tell the difference by how management speaks to each person.

    Advice to Management

Have more faith in your Employees. Not everything is their fault.
Divide the work evenly between all employees rather than having one person overwork themselves to death.
If an employee is asking for help, listen to them.
