    No support

    Pros

If you like bikes you'll like the job, if you like high end bikes you will only like the website as its like a Walmart vibe with cheap crap bikes in store

    Cons

No support from head office, terrible discount and you get lumped with everything from price differences, visual merchandise, shop layout changes, delivery check offs and so many other roles the company want you to complete in a single day its incomprehensible. Your made to fingerprint scan which is fine but 1 minute late your moaned at with threat of disaplinary even though 99% of managers stay late and come on way ealier to Forfill there 45 hour quoter which to be honest takes over your entire life with absolutely no work to life balance. Other than that it's ok

    Pros

Used to be a good place to work. Used to have good staff benefits.

    Cons

Owned by Mike Ashley/Sports Direct/Frasers Group whatever they want to call themselves to cleanse their name. Scrapped their staff industry discount - still widely available at other bike retailers. All store staff on 0 hours contracts. Closed the former head office and laid off many loyal staff with it.

Awful place to work - AVOID

Nov 3, 2020 - Manager in London, England

    Pros

The staff you work with a good laugh and the customers a great

    Cons

Head office is a joke. High salaries for people doing little except spend company money on perks whilst telling you your staffing budgets are shrinking. Again every single year. Whilst simultaneously telling your to take in more money than last year. Every year. Even if that means getting rid of good staff by cutting their hours yet those at head office have no shrinking budgets despite being a cost centre!! No wonder this company went under...

    Operated by incompetent bullies

    Pros

Fantastic discount scheme, ride2work scheme and get to work with people who share a love of cycling in the stores

    Cons

Head Office (CSO) operated by people with zero industry experience. Culture of bullying from the top down and senior leaders such as Area Managers are allowed to operate with zero accountability due to being unskilled 'yes men'

DO NOT WORK FOR THIS COMPANY

    Sep 10, 2020 - Sales Associate
    Recommend

    Business Outlook

    Pros

Flexibility and Days off. Trade used to be good but has changed to 20%.

    Cons

I don't even know where to start. First off the communication by head office is atrocious, they are always late to party and only tell stores at the last possible moment that something has changed. Also their communication to customers is awful from what I have heard from customers directly as head office can't help them or do not communicate with them. If the store tries to help customers and has to contact head office, they are useless and they barely help at all. Buying and Merch haven't got a clue how bikes are sold, they will order a million of a particular model and immediately discount the item because they have ordered too many. The ideas by head office are ridiculous and make no sense or give a reason why they need to be done, if questions are asked why something has been done like that they say just do it and don't ask questions about it. The new till systems that have just been installed are useless (it feels like 1 step forward, a million steps back), head office don't have a clue how the stores are run, what the tills need to do to make operations run smoothly. The fact that the till systems were introduced in stages instead of sorting everything out by they were installed was really annoying and put stores under pressure as the tills were slow and inefficient. The tills also don't have internet so we couldn't search for specific information and had to resort to using personal mobiles to find out the information. Main saying by the company is 'sell more bikes' but not all customers want to buy a bike (You can't sell a bike to someone who doesn't want one). Store staff are treated like scum by head office and it feels like our well being doesn't matter to the company as long as we sell stuff. The long hours are awful which means we don't have time to 'Enjoy the Ride' and the company made me HATE cycling. The pay is also terrible for the amount of stuff we have to do even the sales assistant have to do stuff that is normally supervisor role or above. The staff turnover is unbelievable high, I've had 4 managers in 4 years and the current manager is now leaving (if the managers aren't staying when it's no wonder the other staff aren't staying). The training by the company is crap and it makes the staff look incompetent and inexperienced. The progression is crap and the increase in pay from one position to the next up isn't worth it, as you're made to do 10 times more stuff. There was constant bullying in stores by members of staff which I found very unprofessional and when people bought it up they either said 'I haven't had training on how to act' or 'you work in a bike shop, this is what it is always like'. Sports Direct do not have a clue on how bike shops are run.

    Avoid Avoid Avoid

Dec 30, 2019 - Head Office Employee in Crawley, England
    Recommend
    CEO Approval
    Business Outlook

    Pros

There are honestly no pro’s to working for this company, apart from the fact that it is a head office based outside of London, so don’t have that dreaded commute. But pretty sure the unit in Crawley will go, and will link up with Sports Direct head office eventually.

    Cons

I don’t think I would have enough characters or time to list them all, but will give you a bit of an idea. Any potential employees, I would urge you to avoid at all costs. Management literally have no idea what they are doing. Poor communication, and a very top heavy, management structure. Too many management and not enough people to do the day to day tasks. As Sports Direct become more involved, management just say yes to everything without any idea of how to implement, or the man power to do so. People are leaving here left, right and centre. If you have any brain cells, you would definitely not join this company. The feedback you give to management goes in one ear, and out the other. The merchandising and buying functions are full of good people, but the management are clueless, and have no idea about the industry or processes. Destined to fail. Get out while you can.
