    I worked at EventMobi full-time

    Pros

    - Non-management staff are generally great people with positive outlooks - Decent selection of post work sport teams to join

    Cons

    - Offered promotion on "trial" basis with no increase in pay. When I pointed out the person they wanted me to train in this role made significantly more than me, they chose to get myself and that person in trouble for discussing salaries. Management refused to have that person and I sit in a room together with them to discuss and instead chose to have the other employee and I sort it out ourselves. What we were suppose...

    Advice to Management

If you are going to use the 12 questions of employee engagement as a measuring stick then you should actually consider reading the source material so as to understand why these questions are being asked in the first place. Bob, please talk less. Here are some examples of when you've put your foot in your mouth: saying that all of the hires of a particular manager sucked in front of the whole company (including the...

I worked at EventMobi full-time for more than 4 years

    Pros

When I started, I was explicit about the desire to learn and grow within the company. My initial position was entry-level, and within three years I was wearing at least 5 different hats -- most of which I was acknowledged for. EventMobi was great for me, as a self-starter, because it gave me the opportunity to learn about a lot of different aspects of the business (and businesses in general), and to try my hand at a variety...

    Cons

EventMobi, at least when I was working there, was a proper startup. That is, it was the sort of place where your job was kind of amorphous and everyone had to wear a lot of hats. This obviously suited self-starters who were good at managing their own time and keeping busy. It favoured people who were open to learning lots of different things and putting in extra time to flesh out the tasks they liked doing into jobs they...

    Advice to Management

Not having any management experience myself, it feels odd to try to give anyone advice about it. And, as I mentioned above, I think Bob and Bijan make an honest effort and generally do a good job at making EventMobi a great place to work and grow. Personally, I could have benefited from more real, professional guidance early on in my projects to avoid wasting time and uncertainty. Receiving key feedback at the end of...

    I worked at EventMobi

    Pros

-Company culture (outside of management) was overall really positive, this is a great place to work as a student in terms of culture. -The name means something, in the Toronto start-up world EventMobi has some recognition and it can be an asset on your resume. -Perks like work socials, free snacks, catered lunch options and free booze are a definite plus.

    Cons

-Salary for an intern was crap, you are almost guaranteed to be paid better elsewhere (especially if you're from Waterloo). -Job description did NOT match the work that was actually given. The job I took was far superior to the job I ended up doing. -Management was a bit restrictive in terms of the opportunities and projects that interns were able to take on. We were stuck...

    Advice to Management

-Use your interns as a resource, don't hire them solely to do the work no one else wants to do. -There's nothing wrong with the fact that you are growing and changing rapidly, but people are getting lost in the mix and can suffer as a result. - Calling out an employee for a mistake over company-wide communication channels doesn't exactly build positive morale, and it's especially upsetting when it comes from senior...
